- Ceasefire Update:
A clear look at Israel's defeat.
Israel FM says ceasefire already violated:Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who met with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in New York on Wednesday evening, said that the fact the abducted Israel Defense Forces soldiers have not been released constitutes a violation of Security Council Resolution 1701. She added that she expects the international community to work for the troops' immediate release.
Lebanese army heading south, Israel may leave southern Lebanon in 10 days.
Having seen Israeli weakness, Syria jumps in:SYRIA has warned Israel that the occupation of the Golan Heights "cannot last forever" and said Syrians will emulate Hizbollah to recover their land.
"We say to the forces occupying our land that our people warn you that they will not allow our land to be occupied forever," the government's daily Ath-Thawra said.
"You must understand that our people will fight the way the Lebanese resistance (Hizbollah) fought you," it added.
It isn't fair to pick on Robert Fisk articles. It's like beating up a quadraplegic who deserves it: "Robert Fisk: In the face of Bush's lies, it's left to Assad to tell the truth".
France tells Israel to stop blockading Lebanese ports because the Lebanese will stop arms shipments to Hezbullah. France is bringing seriousness to the process. Haha, bwaa, ha ha ha! That laughing gave me a stomach cramp.
Lebanese general arrested:A Lebanese general was ordered arrested Wednesday for appearing in a videotape drinking tea with IDF soldiers who had occupied his south Lebanon barracks during their incursion of the country...
Daoud finds himself in jail not for fraternization, but for exposing the real nature of the war. Israel had no beef with the kind of military police force Daoud commanded. In fact, Israel wants to have precisely these kinds of forces across their northern border, rather than the Hezbollah terrorists that have held the territory for years. That is why Israeli soldiers treated Daoud so chivalrously.
EVERYTHING you would ever want to know about Lebanon.
- CY runs the numbers, thinks more than 60% of "civlian" deaths in Lebanon were Hezbullah fighters.
On the ground, Hizbollah lost nearly 600 of its own personnel, and billions of dollars worth of assets and weapons.
Ynet News, citing the IDF as a source three days ago, states that 530 Hezbollah members have been killed.
If the Hezbollah deaths cited by StrategyPage and Ynet are correct and the AP's overall casualty count is close to accurate, then more than 60% of those killed were Hezbollah fighters, even as Hezbollah attempted to hide behind old women and children.
However, when looking at the figures provided by the Associated Press, one would be tempted to infer that Hezbollah's attacks were more precisely targeted at Israeli military forces, as the AP points out that the majority of the Israelis killed by Hezbollah--118 of 157--were soldiers, while "most" of those killed by Israel were civilians.
But the AP conveniently leaves out the fact that half of the Israeli civilians killed were the result of 4,000 indiscriminately targeted Hezbollah rockets purposefully aimed at civilian areas. It also leaves out the glaring fact that Lebanese civilian casualties were so high precisely because Hezbollah chose to fight a war using Lebanese civilians as shields.
- Iran's Holocaust cartoon contest: “'This is a test of the boundaries of free speech espoused by Western countries,' said Masoud Shojai-Tabatabai, head of the Cartoon House which helped organize the exhibition, as he stood next to the Statue of Liberty drawing." See, it's all about tolerance and Free Speech, not Jew-hating.
- A beautiful article at Belmont on commitment and deterrance, using Keyser Soze as an example. Terrorists have commitment; the West does not.
What this means is explained by notes from the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which summarizes Schelling's lectures. First described is the basic notion of commitment, which communicates to the enemy that you will do what you undertake. Commitment makes deterrence credible and credibility is the essential problem. "The most difficult part is communicating your intentions to your enemies. They must believe that you are committed to fighting them in order to defend" what you say you will defend for them to take you seriously. As Verbal Kint put it "to be in power, you didn't need guns or money or even numbers. You just needed the will to do what the other guy wouldn't." To accomplish it no matter what. Schelling taught that threats are more credible if you "burn your bridges or ships" thereby making it clear that you have only one option: fight. When the Hungarian mob invaded Soze's home to intimidate him into submitting, he simply killed his family first, illustrating Schelling's point that to truly be believed “you must get yourself into a position where you cannot fail to react as you said you would”. Such is this power that when the fictional Kaiser Soze demonstrated absolute commitment he ceased to be simply a man and became a force of nature.
- The Unfrozen Caveman bloc sounds like Jacksonians to me. "You want to kill me and my family? We will friggin' destroy you, your house, your dog and everything else you care about." I began this war with a neo-con mindset: build democracies to provide political and economic freedom which will lead to the end of Islamism. I have serious doubts about that policy working after the last 3 years of fighting. Becoming a "To Hell With 'Em" Hawk is a strong temptation.
- Michael Freund says Iran and Syria are making the same strategic blunders Saddam made: showing the world that Bush is right about them and their intentions. He expects the results to be the same.
- Andrew Sullivan is officially nuts. The UK plot was a hoax? Jeff is homophobic for using the word dementia?
- Althouse has a story on madrassas in New York. 9 hours per day of rote memorization of the Koran, no other subjects are taught.
The young boys are taught that if they memorize the entire Koran, they will gain admittance to heaven and the right to choose 10 persons to bring along with them. If believed, this is a powerful incentive. There is a sense that the entire family is relying on him. Meanwhile, these boys -- who must be quite smart to have a shot at memorizing the 6,200 verses -- are deprived of all other education, including instruction in Arabic, the language of the text they are memorizing phonetically. (Nor are they provided with a translation: they are learning only to pronounce sounds.)
- Bryan has IDF war videos. Man, the IDF never contacts me.
- Fox news crew still missing. No demands and no claims of responsibility have been made.
- On a humorous note, Jesse Jackson goes to the Middle East to make peace. And where our enemies are.
A different kind of war: against the caps-lock key.

Here are some observations I made in the Canadian media recently:
Aug 17
CBC news reports in Lebanon:
"Another step on the road to peace"
" UN won't get involved in the "fighting between Hezbollah and the Israelis."
"won't disarm Hezbollah because doing so they wouldn't be welcome "here" for long."
Aug 16
IDF announces it will leave Lebanon regardless if Hezbollah is disarmed or not. - Haaratz
>>>>>
So Bush proclaiming this a great victory because Hezbollah will be disarmed is a lie.Reports from Olmert's government that IDF will not leave until Hezbollah is disarmed was a lie.
All the conservatives here know that.. with the exception of the pretend conservatives and the moonbats in Israeli clothing that come to this website.
The road to "peace" means of course rearming and protecting Hezbollah. The CBC lies because the UN IS involved in the fighting, there job is to protect Hezbollah serving as civilian shields. They are not there to protect Israel.
And as we can see their mandate is "to be liked" by the terrorists and their civilian supporters. That is the role of UN peacekeepers. If they weren't liked then terrorists might start shooting at them. Poor souls.
...
Aug 16: I read the "Globe and Mail" for the first time in years. I used to trust this newspaper and regard it as "intellectual". It had honest intelligent news in the Gulf War with no Islamic propaganda. Not so any more. It is very shocking now. It seems that I am living in Iran or Lebanon.
From now on I will call Canada: Islamanada and Toronto: Lebanoto. The newspapers were not just biased , they were totally owned.
The prominent editorial int this new "Islamic Globe and Mail" was written by a Lebanese columnist Rami Khouri. He celebrated that Hezbollah emerged in "rather good shape", that now Nasarallah had taken on the tone and veneer of a president. He denounced Israel and the US for being willing to destroy an entire country "to assert their interests" and he headlined happily that there would be "furies to come".
So apparently this is what Canadians are supposed to think. We are the country of Islamofascist protection. No war on terror here.
The front page of this same major newspaper has an article written by a co-opted reporter , Mark MacKinnon from Ainata Lebanon about the "rage and grief" towards Israelis former crimes etc etc. no awareness at all of the real truth of "civilian" casualties in Lebanon . It is straight from Hezbollah 's propaganda bureau.
After thinking it over with everything I know about AP and Reuters news services I realized that it is "just business". some of the major corporate executive s that run these media services might be directly co-opted by Islamic interests but it is not logically necessary. Looking at all the bylines , the newspapers rely on the wire services for their news, They hardly write any of their own stuff. Only a few small corporations own all of Canadian media now. They have no competition. So they keep their costs as low as possible and siphon their mega-profits into the parent company and that capital is used for other proposes. So they give a very simplified no-effort, one size fits all, news to the public. They cannot refuse the stories of the wire services , in fact they need them otherwise they would have no news sources. The Islamic interests own or pressure the major wire services as is reported on LGF and many other active internet sites.
So the Jihadists have been very clever, they indirectly own the Canadian media. There are in business collusion with Corporate capitalist. It is just the same way the Chinese totalitarians state has invested in Canadian Oil sands in Alberta and is building a pipeline to the coast to take all what is now their oil to China. Business interests have sold out Canadians.
No letter to the editor could make a dent in that , business is business. My country has been sold out by crass media monopolists. And we have the typical apathetic duped Canadian population.
The moonbat (false "concerned" Israelis supporter) Bill Narvey published some significant propaganda on this website: He showed that almost all almost all the Muslim organizations in Canada denounce the USA and Israel as terrorists and refuse to denounce Islamofascists and Islamic Jihad. But according to Bill, everything is under control. It's all in the pipeline, nothing to worry about here, move along please. Exactly what we would expect a deceitful Islamic propagandist to say.
We have 8000,000 Muslims in Canada who reflect the attitude of their leaders. Now thanks to the Israeli defeat in Lebanon , there will be open and unrestricted communication between Hezbollah and their followers in Canada. Not only will Canada NOT guard against them but the Canadian government will actually guard their right to privacy and protect all their communication with their Islamofascists leaders not only in Lebanon but in all the Islamofascists countries like Iran, Egypt , Syria, Saudi Arabia etc.
So what can be done? How can Islamofascists be fought when the government and business interests have sold out to them? I understand how the whole process works. We are ruled by an oligarchical elite. They are like nobility. they have sacrificed Canadians over and aver again only caring about their own power. We have many documentaries about this abuse of their power. They let us make the documentaries because we can do nothing and their power is absolute. The major corporations own the media and the government. The politicians are executive servants for corporations and are in alliance with them . The elite call the tune and the politicians jump.
And the politicians jump from government postings to Corporate advisory ships. he positions are interchangeable.
Actually there is not much a few aware people can do than simply chart the downfall and disasters to come in Canada and the World. The only countries fighting terrorism and Jihad just seem to give up , co-opted by personal business interests.
Everything is known and argued about in the Blogosphere but none of that is even known by the general public. It is not even presented to them to even agree or disagree. They are told what is the "truth" (what Islamics want them to believe)and that all there is.
The Blogosphere does not have much influence on the MSM. The mass populations have no time or inclination to fallow the Blogosphere. Even today in their minds Qana was a horrible massacre o killing hundreds of innocent civilians by the Nazi Israelis. As far as they know everything is wonderful because the peacekeepers went to Lebanon, and as far as we know Israel is one giant step closer to Armageddon. And as far as they know Canada is one big happy multicultural family with maybe a few "small snags" . But those small snags like the "max Muller snag" can be silenced easily.
In all fairness I must say that seeing my country is a collection of Islamic fascists, a corrupted media , a elitist government that is the extension of corporate interests, the Liberals, the leftists and a duped and uncaring apathetic public.
Are they worth saving? Not really. But what else is there to do but futilely protest?
