How Israel stops plane plots:
Years ago, Mr. Arad made an observation on the difference between U.S. and Israeli aviation security that is as accurate today as it was then. He noted while U.S. aviation security focuses on finding the tools of the terrorist's trade, Israeli security focuses on finding the terrorist. The one and only hijacking of an El Al aircraft occurred in 1968, resulting in a system that virtually remains unchanged to this day, even after the terrorist attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, and the recent plot in the United Kingdom.

Technology is used in the Israeli aviation security system, but it takes a back seat to the primary defense against terrorism -- analyzing human behavior based on intent. A misconception about Israeli security is that it profiles based on ethnicity. It does not. It profiles based on the means by which any passenger might conduct an attack. To make sure security personnel understand the criminal mindset, before being taught to think security, they are trained to think as terrorists. In this manner, they start to identify dozens of behavioral indicators, reflective of criminal intent. They have become so good at this that often criminal activity other than terrorism is uncovered.

America is now trying this approach. Anything is better than this: a kid just walking onto a plane without any ticket or boarding pass?

A defense of straight forward profiling here. I don't see this as a long-term solution. There are already white Jihadis and dupes/sympathizers to carry bombs onto planes, knowingly or unknowingly.

A SUITCASE filled with bomb-making material has been found by police teams investigating the alleged plot to blow up aircraft over the Atlantic.

The suitcase, containing chemicals and other equipment for a home-made bomb, was found in woods in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, close to addresses at which suspects were arrested last week.

A police source said that the suitcase contained everything that would be needed to make an explosive device. This could include materials for creating an explosive, methods of concealment and a simple way of detonating the bomb.

On the heels of what it views as a Hizbullah victory against the Jewish state, Syria is forming its own Hizbullah-like guerilla organization to fight Israel in hopes of "liberating" the Golan Heights, an official from Syrian President Bashar Assad's Ba'ath party told WorldNetDaily yesterday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Syria learned from Hizbullah's military campaign against Israel the past month that "fighting" is more effective than peace negotiations with regard to gaining territory.
