Powder Blue is an extraordinary movie of Timothy Linh Bui, a newcomer to the mainstream movies. The plot of this movie is unique, which depicts a one-week life of four individuals.
Forest Whitaker casts the role of Charlie, an ex priest. The ex priest is in depressed mood, due to the death of his wife. He needs to fight with his tendency to commit suicide. Ray Liotta plays the lead role of Hitman Jack and this character is battling with cancer. Eddie Redmayne acts as a discomfited twenty year old funeral undertaker QWERTY. He suffers from asthma, whenever he attempts to talk to a girl. Jessica Biel plays the role of Stripper Rose Johnny. She is struggling to clear the medical bills of her passed out son. He needs to work hard to meet his ends.
These set of people who have no hope in life are bound together in this interesting movie which is a piece of art. Though reviews focus on Jessica's topless scene, Powder Blue is definitely much more than a cheap stripper movie.
The theme dealt with here is eloquent. Insights on the nature of love are dealt with in a subtle and effective manner. Plot gently deals with love's nature, what happens when we and how we find it and when we lose it. Beginning of the movie sees the characters selfishly striving to attain their own motive of finding affection.
For example, Qwerty goes around looking for a date. Rose Johnny looks for a man who loves her not only for her looks but also loves her as a person. Charlie desperately tries to find someone who can love him or who can end his life for $50,000. Jack attempts to erase the guilt of not spending enough time with his daughter by making an attempt to build a relationship with her. Linh Bui's Powder Blue is a fascinating movie that realistically captures the essence of the role of love in life.
