Ideas & Planning for Grad 2013
Saturday, October 8, 2011 9:06:37 PM
Dear Graduating class of 2013,
I know it seems like your graduation is miles away (over a year and half away) but students have asked me to create an interactive website where you can already start planning for your grad.
A student asked me to post this idea. Please respond if you are interested or post other ideas/grad plans below this blog. You will find words below this blog posting where that says "write comment"! Click on this to write a comment. You do not have to be a member SO IF YOU ARE in grade 11 at SPA/CFL please POST SOMETHING!!! I took the time to make this site so it would be awesome if you took the time to post at least one thought.
(When posting a comment please SIGN WITH YOUR NAME at the end!! I do not want people just writing random or inappropriate things. If you do so I will make sure you are banned from this website. Thank you for showing respect.)
I promise you the next year and half of your life will practically fly by so please make the most of every moment you are given and really seize the day!!
Carpe Diem,
Mr. Pukalo
Idea from a student:
I was thinking we could plan an "Angel Hair for Kids" event for the grads of 2012. That way the participants (girls and guys) would have time to grow out their hair. What happens is that everyone who wants to doesnt cut or dye there hair until we Graduate, and the day or two before our Graduation ceremony, we have a "Whack off the hair for kids" day and if we could get haridressers to volunteer, we could have them cut, and style it for grad.
You see, I have done this once already, when I was still in the public system. I had hair down past my knees and then in Grade 6 I decided to donate it. I made it into a great big fundraising affair and I had about 7 other people cutting their hair at the same time. If we could get enough people in our Grade 11 year to participate, do you think we could do it?
The program that we used in Grade 6 was "Angel Hair for Kids" which gets the donations for the ABC's of hair loss. Alopecia, Burns and Cancer.
If anyone other than Grade 11's would like to participate/support the grads, by all means!! Let me know.
We could call ourselves the Angel Grads of 2013.
Here is the link and let me know what you think!

Student is known for her long, knee-length hair at Aurora elementary school. She?s been growing it since she was in Grade 3, but now the 12-year-old, Grade 6 student is ready to chop it all off -- and she wants you to do it too.
They are organizing a Share your Hair event, with pizza, pop and hair shears. Participants must be willing to cut off at least 25 cm (10 inches) and severed ponytails will be mailed to Angel Hair for Kids, a charity which connects financially disadvantaged kids who?ve lost their hair to cancer, burns or alopecia with hand-made wigs, shaped and styled just for them.
?I want them to be happy too, so they?ll get better faster,? says the Student
Each wig costs $800 to manufacture, so the student is collecting pledges and sponsors for the cause. So far she and her mom have secured a hairdresser to donate her time and are putting up posters around town to find other people willing to sport a new do for spring.
Angel Hair for Kids is a subsidiary of A Child?s Voice Foundation, a national charity based in Ontario. In operation since 1995, Angel Hair has manufactured 150 wigs to date and has chapters in Calgary, Ontario and Halifax.
The wigs help the kids feel so much better about themselves, says executive director Roslyn Yearwood. ?It?s rebuilding their self-esteem. They know somebody?s caring about them.?
According to the foundation, 10,000 children in Canada lose their hair every year and it takes 10 to 12 hair donations to complete each wig.
So will the student miss her Rapunzel-like hair? She shrugs, saying, ?I don?t know.? But her dad says he?ll miss it and even one of her classmates jokes that he?ll need counselling after her transformation.

About next year's school trip, I doubt I could go because it's waay too expensive for me. But if I could go, I would love to go to different places in the Canadian Rockies.

Also, maybe we grads could serve dinners at the Drop-In center in Calgary around grad time.
