I HATE HOLLYWOOD, its for sure that hollywood gonna get a lot of money when they show in cinemas Desu Noto (or in translation death note), and people will gonna think "wow its an awesome story" but if you dont know it, THIS AWESOME STORY IS JAPANESE, THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL ANIME (animation), so if you are a big fan from Japan or Asia like me DONT GO TO WATCH THIS STUPID AMERICAN-HOLLYWOOD movie AND SUPPORT JAPAN AND JAPANESE CREATORS.
Since last 2 years and half american people/hollywood are including asian people in film productions, they are giving them more "space", why? because i think they are trying to get all that part like own more and more, so if you are Asian dont be a fool thinking that united states is nice with your country, they want to put a big foot in your neck pretty smoothly.
A pair of original names as changed..., YES YOU ARE RIGHT, for more american style, yes, they want to be recognized by this movie AND LEAVE JAPAN IN SECOND PLACE LIKE ALWAYS. (IF POSSIBLE THEY DONT MENTION ASIAN PEOPLE, LESS INFORMATION FROM ASIA IN A PRODUCTION IS BETTER FOR THEM).

I watched both the animated series and the 2 part movie that japan made, and in my opinion the anime was very good, one of the best i've ever seen. However for the movie I couldn't say the same. The worst part about the movie was the acting in general. Most of the time the acting was so cheezy and lame that the parts of the movie that were suppose to be serious or sad, were actually more humorus to me. Although it's true that Holly Wood does tend to take credit for more than it's fair share, I dont believe that its wrong to see an idea and try to make it better. I do believe that the story behind Death Note is strong enough that even an american remake couldn't ruin it. Good luck Holly Wood, try not to screw this up too.

I don't think I'm even going to watch the american version. I LOVED Death Note, the movies, and the anime, and it just doesn't seem right that they think they can take it and "americanize" it! Whenever they try to do that it tends to turn out horribly. Sorry for the off the wall analogy, but it's kinda like Twilight with vampires. I'm not meaning to offend any one if I do, but Twilight just doesn't count as vampires in my book. And there are people that base ALL of their knowledge of vampires off of Twilight, but those things don't even work! And that's probably how this is going to be! People will see this and suddenly think that they know everything there is to know about Death Note, when it will probably only just scrape the surface of it!

I agree with #15 the anime series was brilliant, quite possibly one of the best animes I've seen but the live action film was horrible, worst acting I have ever seen in my life but Ryuk was the nearly the same (without the apple addiction). Hollywood wreaks anything good just for more money, I'm curious to see how Hollywood are to make this brilliant story line a train wreak

I'm a big fan of the Death Note anime series, but I really think that the movie(s) was...bad. Really, worst acting ever. And I didn't like Light's actor, whatev-his-name.
I don't like what hollywood is doing with anime (DBZ, for example), but I still think that the amrican version of DN could be good.
But y the hell did they change the names?!

Just goes to show that Hollywood is up shit's creek with out a paddle as far as originality goes so they're mooching off other countries and destroying works of art. Just to make money and try to fool those who don't know better into thinking they're making a stylish, original film that everyone is going to eat up. But I for one am not. As a huge fan of the manga primarily, seconded by the anime (despite the ending not matching with the manga) and the films (although the only actor worth noting is Matsuyama Ken'ichi, as well as not liking the plot changes or the fact that Near, Mello, Matt or Mikami werem't in it) I think the only people who will appreciate this is those not familiar with the original and it angers me for the simple fact that it should be true to the original story for those who were fans before a remake was even considered. It's sad when Hollywood seems to cater more to those who aren't fans and creates something so doomed to fail and that more than likely will do nothing more than appaul those who adore Death Note. Oh and the actors/actress all look like aging actors trying to rekindle their youth by taking up youthful roles. Too much mooching and not enough creativity and worthy film stars if you ask me. BIG thumbs down. I challenge Hollywood to make a remake that doesn't appear that the creaters were sitting around with their thumbs up their asses while putting it into production. ^_^

Changing the names WTF??? if they are going to remake it at least take a look at the way the Japanese done it...fair enough they didn't stick entirely to the manga series but at least they did an amazing job at bringing the characters to life...
I am going to see it...I want to see how many ways they have destroyed it and then console myself with the ORIGINAL AND BEST Death Note movies...the Japanese version!

Hey i'm sorry people, but I really don't see it that way. I don't hate hollywood, because after all, that's where most of the good movies come from. I recognize there had came many bad movies from there, but I do respect it, and i don't think it's that way. I've seen all the Anime and i loved it, but I'll give hollywood an oportunity make a movie about it, and if it turns to be a crap, then I wont care cause i liked the anime and thats enough for me to be happy about it. Let me clearly state that I am a big fan of Death Note. However,I can't say I agree with the assumptions that the movie will fail. Furthermore, I definitely think that the racism spawned from the original anime versus the Hollywood version is completely uncalled for. The anime itself featured America (at least in name) several times, and as far as I know, I've heard no quibbling about it from the Japanese. L himself lived in England for a while--it seems as if the sprinkling of Euroculture in the anime is nothing but complimentary on the Japanese perspective. That being said, it would simply be interesting to see the change of perspective; ars gratia artis, whether it be franchised or independently done. It is not choosing to support Japan or America, it is the choosing to support Death Note as the compelling story it is.
Once again, let me clearly state that I am a big fan of Death Note--and allow me to add a final clause--in all of its forms.
