About me

I like cooking, hanging around having a drink and a chat, and thinking. I travel, and I learn languages. I would like to have more time for reading, but I need to use more time for sleeping first. I come from Australia, have spent a few years working in different places around the world and too much time in airports, planes, buses and trains.

When I am not in Spain I miss Eva.

My work

I work at Opera on standards and specifications (they call me the Chief Standards Officer, if you want to be formal). I am interested in accessibility of the web for everyone, and therefore in its architecture. I'm also interested in making it as easy as possible to create things for the Web, so I care about how to make workable authoring tools for ordinary folks like me. (I am not a very good programmer, but I can write simple markup well). I work late at night a lot, so I don't work much in the morning if I can avoid it. I spend a lot of time working away from my office.

Fast facts

At the movies I like to see:Interesting stuff, and things I have seen before, but mostly I avoid the movies.
Last movie seen:I don't really watch movies. Occasionally I see something on a plane or in a bar, more out of boredom than anything else.

Why I choose the Opera browser

I got into M2 - a very cool mail tool. Then I needed IRC and lo and behold there it was. Zoom, tabs, minimum font size, keyboard control, an intelligent implementation of accesskey, being able to customise almost anything, SVG, panels, and a few other things kept me interested. Now that I work for them it seems pretty natural to keep using it :) The fact that it runs on my phones, the Wii, and most every device I meet helps too. And being able to use Link to keep myself connected to myself, and being able to Use Opera Unite to decide what I want to share, when, and with whom, are also pluses...
