Naming things

Bookmarks are handy - especially if you remember what they are...
Every so often I start using a feature that I know Opera has, but never tried. Today's is the nickname for bookmarks.
When you set a bookmark, among the details you can add is a nickname. I often change the title to something I will recognise (it seems page authors are still not good at thinking about how the ittle will be used), but there are a handful of bookmarks I use a lot. Most of them are intranet pages, so I can't search for them as an alternative.
Today I started assigning nicknames to a few things. Which is sweet, because I can type the nickname into the address bar. We have a system for reporting hours worked by project (doesn't everyone), called PMS. I guess because most people fill it out about once a month and it makes them grumpy. Anyway, instead of an internal URI that makes no sense to anybody and is totally unmemorable, I set a nickname and now just type "pms" in the address bar and I can start recording what I did. (I am trying to fill it out every day or two...).
That's up there with your own search keywords (although they should be "search prefixes" or something).

Search shortcuts and bookmarks shortcuts are one of my favorite opera features. It really makes browsing my favorite sites (especially with long URLs) a snap!

BTW, I have to manage nicknames for my bookmarks in Opera, probably it will be the way that I stopp complaining that I never find the correct bookmark in Opera because of the versions.

pms is a great example... examples I use daily are:
"wm" for webmail
"blog" for http://my.opera.com/usability
I even nickname out my URLs like gmail... Opera handles nicknames so much more speedily than the .com resolution.
In fact, if you use the "open nickname" feature (shift F2 by default?) instead of the normal address bar or "go to page" dialog, your nickname will load when it finds enough unique letters... So if you've only got one nickname (in all your bookmarks) that starts with the letter 's' then you only have to type s into the "open nickname" dialog and it will fire it off! Quick!
...although, truth be told, I don't use it.
