Bang!

Err, that's meant to be Bangalore, the first place I have ever been in India.
Another big red blob. I came here to present based on a paper on the mobile web at a workshop on the use of the mobile web in the developing world, and to attend BarCamp Delhi 2. So far I have been here almost a couple of days.
I haven't been outside much though. I was in Japan for 3 days, Australia for two days, Hong Kong for one, and then I arrived here nearly 2 days ago. There is a big bunch of travel between each of those stops, a talk at each one, and my luggage was lost on the way to Hong Kong. Hopefully I will be re-united with it by the end of the week or beginning of next week
The workshop was interesting. There are a lot of people working on the mobile web in the developing world, doing interesting stuff. And happily, having come to talk about technology as an enabler for wahtever it is that people actually want to achieve, it was clear at the workshop that people realised the point of the technology is just that. The point of the technology is to respond to needs, not just swallow people's time and money.
It turns out that Opera Mini 3 does a bunch of things that I was wanting about 18 months ago for some projects in the developing world. So maybe things will move forward there too. Sometimes things happen at work that remind me why I do all this, and what it can offer. This week is one of those times, it seems, in a number of ways.
