Simon Hughes’s comments on Sri Lanka - Are those 'Straight'! Or 'Gay'??

, ,

President of the British Liberal Democrat party, , reported to have told BBC “Sandeshaya” programme “What happens in Sri Lanka is of importance to UK and the Commonwealth as well as for many other countries”. He has also told that "The government of Sri Lanka does not command the confidence of all the people. The only way to get an objective assessment, not propaganda, is to send independent monitors". Though some consider his comments “Very Serious”, some who knows his background of misleading people say that this is a negligible comment by a political clown.

In the election, The Liberals presented Simon Hughes as the "Straight Choice" against his gay competitor Mr Tatchell. There were a lot of rumors about his private life which tarnished his political image. When asked by the ‘Independent’ whether he was gay, he replied: "No, I'm not”. He denied his gay affairs saying he had "often" thought about getting married. However he later admitted having both homosexual and heterosexual relationships and to phoning a gay chat service. When these were revealed he said: "I apologize if I misled people; I apologize if I unintentionally gave the wrong impression. He further said that he had even considered dropping out of the leadership contest but did not think the issue should disqualify him from playing a part in public life

Simon Hughes says he like Sri Lanka and has visited the country in the past. We are not quite sure whether his interests and visits to Sri Lanka have anything to do with his gay affairs. In any case being “Gay” is not a crime! But supporting terrorism is altogether a different story..!!!

Anonymous writes: Mr. Jayakody, I had the misfortune of coming across your artice during my search for a serious article on Simon Hughes. Simon Hughes is a thoroughly decent man who is often the voice of the Tamil diaspora in this country, and those who would wish to condment the creeping curtailment of civil liberties in a country which has very little right remaining to refer to itself as a democracy. Your prying comments into the personal life of Mr Hughes resembles the invasive nature of the current Sri Lankan government. You say you are the voice of your people but I think it would be more apt to say that you are a disgrace to your people.
