About me
Charter Fellows are teachers who have graduated from Berry College in Georgia. We meet twice each year to discuss effective teaching and learning in public and private K-12 schools.
The mission of Charter Fellows is to become a self-perpetuating, self-directing alumni organization dedicated to service and professional development; educating the head, heart, and hands in the service of teaching.
My work
Charter Fellows (CF) began in 2003 as a joint project with the Berry College Charter School of Education and the BellSouth Foundation. CF focuses upon Charter School graduates and their induction into the profession of teaching. The purpose of Charter Fellows is to assess graduate effectiveness (teacher quality), provide support and professional development opportunities (induction) and determine their likelihood of remaining in the teaching profession (retention). A project summary is available here. The project has expanded to serve as a networking and development resource as well as teacher placement resource for new graduates. Experienced teachers (3+ years experience), new teachers (1-2 years experience), and pre-service teachers participate in professional development workshops annually in conjunction with Berry's Mountain Day festivities.
