WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF MYSTERIES
Do you know that behind this so called "PERIODIC TABLE" is the huge mysterious knowledge about different elements existing in this cosmos... And these elements have made up everything in our life, the air we are breathing, the water we are drinking, the food we are eating... or even our body is also made up from these elements.
Do you know that behind this so called "PERIODIC TABLE" is the huge mysterious knowledge about different elements existing in this cosmos... And these elements have made up everything in our life, the air we are breathing, the water we are drinking, the food we are eating... or even our body is also made up from these elements.
In total, the periodic table contains 117 elements, however only 94 of them are found on the earth. But the number will surely be smaller if we count the number of elements that we knew.
These 117 elements are divided into 2 separated categories as shown in the table, one includes Lanthanide and Actinide series (28 elements), and another one contains all other 89 elements.
These 89 elements are once again classified into 7 different groups and 8 periods.
- From Period 1 to 7: elements are arranged from left to right horizontally following their number of protons in each atom. One atom will have 1 proton less compared to its right-side atom.
- From Group 1 to 8: elements are arranged vertically following their number of electron shells in each atom. Above atom will have 1 electron shell more than that of the below atom. As going down a group or acrossing a period, there are many trends occuring for the atoms.
Amongst these 8 groups, scientists are more interested in 2 of due to their typical characteristics and real life applications. They are: Group 1 metals (Alkali) and Group 7 elements (Halogens).
We also highlight the middle block of elements: these 38 elements are called transition metals and they also plays very important part in the Periodic Table.
So...
Let's begin to find out more about these special groups!!!!!
