VLAN & trunk setup on a Linksys L2 Switch

1) If you have several L2 switches which are going to trunk together, you *MUST* change your default management IP (ex.192.168.1.254) of each switch!! Otherwise you won't be sure that which switch is the one you exactly connect to via web UI!!
2) Therefore, we have to connect to the L2 switch using RS-232 cable first. Ideal OS for managing the switch is Windows, since its WebUI requires IE with ActiveX, and HyperTerminal or Putty can be used for console management. Baud Rate is 38400. After login into the console, device IP can be changed. However, not much work can be done in console, so WebUI would mainly be used later. Another useful option in console mode is "Reset to factory default"...
3) Connect to the switch via its device IP. Assign VLAN groups (untagged) and trunk ports (binding multiple VLANS with tagged flag) according to your needs. Remember one important thing: device IP can only be connected via default (management) VLAN!! So if you leave no port assigned to VLAN1, you won't be able to connect to the WebUI anymore!! Maybe reset to default would be the only solution for this situation...
4) Congratulations!! You've finished setting up your switch(es)!!
