Reported Speech

In English, when we report what someone has said, we use reported speech. Reported speech can take a number of different forms. these are the most common ways that it is used.
# Reported statements
The usual rule for reported statements is that the main verb moves one tense back. The verbs say and tell are often used to reported the words that someone has said.
Example:
-Direct Speech (kalimat langsung):
'UNICEF looks after children all around the world.'
kalimat langsung/ direct speech di atas di ubah menjadi kalimat laporan/ reported speech menjadi:
-Reported speech:
He said that UNICEF looked after children all around the world.
OR (atau)
He told us that UNICEF looked after children all around the world.
# Reported Question
In reported questions, the tense moves one step back and the word order changes. the verb ask is often used. when there is no question word in the direct speech sentence, if is used in the reported speech sentence.
1st Example:
-Direct speech:
'Why have you chosen Pakistan?'
direct speech di atas di ubah menjadi reported speech menjadi~
-Reported speech:
He asked her why she had chosen Pakistan.
2nd Example:
-Direct speech:
'Are you lots of girls who don't who go to school?'
kalimat diatas berubah menjadi~
-Reported Speech:
He asked her if there were lots of girls who didn't go to school.
# Reported Commands
In reported commands, the tense moves back one step and the reporting verb is often tell. the main verb uses to.
Example:
-Direct Speech:
'Stop talking and get on with the cleaning.'
berubah menjadi~
-Reported speech:
He told her to stop talking and get on with the cleaning.
# Reported Requests
In reported requests, the tense moves back moves one step and the reporting verb is often ask. The main verb uses to.
Example:
-Direct Speech:
'Please let me go to school, daddy.'
berubah menjadi
-Reported Speech:
She asked her father to let her go to school.
