American pop rock bands are in a competitive market and they have to work hard, touring the world and producing high quality records. Maroon 5 cds have brought the band chart success and a loyal core of fans. They began life in 1994 under the name, Kara's Flowers, and changed to the current name in 2001. The present members are Adam Levine (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Valentine (lead guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, rhythm guitar), Michael Madden (bass guitar) and Matt Flynn (drums). Three of the members were friends at junior high school together in Los Angeles.
Debut album, Songs about Jane came out in 2002 and eventually had triple platinum sales in several countries. In addition to terrific sales, this Maroon 5 cd met with critics' approval and won many awards. It was a five-year break before the second studio album was released. Titled It Won't be Soon Before Long, it went to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
The band also enjoys playing live and has toured extensively. Artists they have toured with include The Hives, New Found Glory, and Counting Crows. The Maroon 5 cd, Live-Friday the 13th is the album that captures the live sound and atmosphere. One of the most famous concerts that the band took part in was Live 8 in Philadelphia in 2005.
Success in the singles charts has also come to the band. The first single was titled Harder to Breathe and it reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The follow up was This Love and that hit number 5 in the US. Third single She Will Be Loved was in the Top 5 in the US and the UK. The fourth single, Sunday Morning was a Top 40 hit in the US and the UK.
In addition to the fans' devotion, the band receives respect from fellow artists for their Maroon 5 records. Call and Response: The Remix Album was released on December 9th 2008 and contains remixed tracks from the band's first two album releases, performed by various artists and produced by different guest producers. Artists include Mary J.Blige and Rhianna. Producers working on the project include Mark Ronson and Pharrell Williams.
The music industry has also recognized the talents of the band with awards, including several MTV awards. The most prestigious of the awards however are the Grammy Awards. The first of these was in 2005 when the band was named Best New Artist. The following year brought a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Group with a track on a Maroon 5 cd and single, called This Love. Another track, Makes Me Wonder won the same award in 2008.
The band is well known to the general television audience, having performed their Maroon 5 cds on several popular shows. They have appeared as guests on American Idol, Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the chat shows, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
