Soul Mates

, ,

I looked into the theories of "Soul Mates" and found that it is mostly a romantic notion, quite rebellious in nature with regard to society, often is linked to the idea of "True Love,"and usually limited in application. I found some art that I liked and some writing that was interesting. First, what I found, then how I responded:

To My Soulmate

"Somehow, out of all the twists & turns our lives could have taken,
& out of all the chances we might have missed,
it almost seems we were given a meant-to-be moment~to meet,
to get to know one another, & set the stage for a special togetherness.

When I'm with you, I know that I'm in the presence of someone
who makes my life more complete than I ever dreamed it could be.
I turn to you for trust, & you give it openly.
I look to you for inspiration, answers, & encouragement, &
~not only do you never let me down
~you lift my spirits & take my thoughts to places where my troubles seem so much farther away
& my joys feel they're going to stay in my life forever."

True love is a modern idea and very Western in style. It is counter to the idea of what constitutes a "perfect" relationship in many cultures.

This statement struck a chord with me:
"Love isn't bound by time or space when our connections come from our heart."
by Melody Beattie

I did feel some appreciation of the idea of love, time and space being unlimited, but connected. The concept of the "Soul" must have a limitlessness to it or it would not be a soul. What good is the idea of "Soul Mates" if the soul itself did not exist. Also, it is often said that soul mates seem to respond to each other in ways that do not fit in to the accepted rules of Science.

Of course in the area of human love, our imagination is often motivated to see beyond the ordinary and into places only the poet can describe. The imagery and emotions thus perceived are no less real to us than what can be proven factual. Science has broken down love into three chemical states in the brain. These scientific discoveries might be factual, but they do not explain what people have experienced over the ages. There is more out there than fits the measurements of science. As some people say: "Life is not black and white, it is shades of grey." But love is not just red or green either. Love is shades of rose. Love is degrees of heat. Love is Art, not Science.

So, there is a connection between soul mates but it is not the same for each pair. As some liquids will mix together totally, others will not mix, but still interact if only briefly. And there are solutions where various mixtures create a limitless number of tastes from which we can choose our favorites. Every soul must have the ability to interact with any other soul. But the reaction can not be predicted in advance. It is one of the mysteries of life. I am sure you have heard statements like this:
`Why this one and not that one?
`I expected this one to be so "Right" but it was such a mistake!
`I never knew when I first met her that we would fall in love!
`We loved each other so much, but now, well... it's over.

And you have also heard this one:
`From the first moment we met, we knew we were 'meant to be' and we have been happy ever since!'
That is what I think romantic, sexual, soul mates feel.

But some relationships are neither romantic nor sexual. Still, they feel "Right" and can last longer than most marriages. But like diamonds, they are rare, and very valuable. If you find one, take care of it. It could be your soul mate. If they ask you to dance in the rain with them, don't be afraid to sing as well!

Jon, this post is really thoughtful! I guess all of us are hunting invariably for that one person we feel 'just right' with!

'Soul-mates' a concept as limitless and as prone to belief as the soul itself! For no one really can claim to have seen the soul, we just believe it is there.. like God.. a divine presence, which is out of reach of the daily emotions..

.. and there I go again p

Yes, there you go again, which is perfectly all right. I want to hear about where ever you go!

Hitesha,

A soul guided by love never rambles.
Even in silence love will confide.
Tho the fox chases the hare through brambles,
the love of life will be is its guide.

Its what makes this so special
The silence shared by you and me
When thoughts through the brain but rumble
But you still read them so clearly!

Thanks Jon!

If you try to read the brain, all the words will sound like rain.
When you read the loving heart, each thought is turned to art.

Hi Jon,

Good reading...loved the poem!

"Love isn't bound by time or space when our connections come from our heart."

This resonates with me as well and makes me think of this poem...

Sometimes in this lifetime,
we meet a special soul,
who fills our very essence,
to almost overflow,
we drink the cup of friendship,
it tastes like ruby wine,
and you know within your heart,
this meeting was Divine.

This soul that lives within your heart,
no distance can prevail,
an inner spark, within the heart,
becomes a Holy Grail,
the starting of a journey,
in which you both shall be,
a reflection of each other,
for all eternity.

hi Mags

Here is another poem by ~ Lilaneyah

My Essence

Don't just look for me inwardly,
you know already that I flow,
through your veins,touching all,
the secret places,
filling you with love.

I am also in the snow,
cold and harsh, chilling to the bone,
for with love there is sometimes,
pain, loneliness, despair,
the feeling of wanting me near.

Look for me in the sun,
its rays warming your cold body,
its heat radiating through you,
filling you with hot desire.

Feel the gentle breeze,
taunting, touching, whispering my name,
caressing your body with love,
yes, I am here also.

The gentle brook, that running stream,
flowing endlessly to the sea,
come drink of me my love,
and thirst no more.

I am in the moon,
set in the heavens,to show your way,
through the darkness of life,
and the greatest gift of all,
the myriad of stars.

Like an endless crown of diamonds,
which I take from my head,
and lay at your feet,
You and I, and the Divine, are one,
constantly flowing in the circle of life.

The author is romantic and inspiring, don't you think?

or this one:

You are the essence of my being, you are such an important part of my life. I can't imagine my life without you in it.

I can't begin to tell you the depths to which you have penetrated my soul. You are my sunlight in the morning and my angel at night. Your smile melts my heart. I can't imagine not waking up beside you every day and sharing every moment of our lives together. You help me make sense of it all.

How can I begin to tell you what you mean to me? You have given me so many precious gifts - a reason to dream and believe in myself, a friend to laugh with, a partner for life.

I want you to know how much I love you, today, tomorrow and forever.

How much I will always love you.

Christygreathoneybear Tuesday, August 21, 2007 3:26:46 AM

Gotcha. So you have seen some of my poetry. I have some on my profile page and some in the poetry forum.

I enjoy writing poetry and reading poetry, especially Shakespeare.

I really enjoy reading poems about love.

Your words are very insightful.

Magsintothedeep Tuesday, August 21, 2007 3:33:30 AM

Help me out with Shakespeare...

I enjoy reading poems about love, but there's a lot about Shakespeare's writing that is dark, especially the tragedy scenes, I think.

(I also think I offended someone by sharing that sad )

Am I alone in my thinking???

Christygreathoneybear Tuesday, August 21, 2007 3:58:47 AM

No I don't think so. Did you offend someone on another blog or this one? Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is beautiful and this might sound funny but Disney is taking a lot of their movies now from Shakespeare, like The Lion King is a take-off of Hamlet.

You just have to know how to read and appreciate Shakespeare. It can be difficult, but you have to read between the lines to understand. A lot of poems, especially the olders ones, like back in the 1800's are like that. It just takes awhile to understand them.

Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day (1564-1616)

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy enternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Magsintothedeep Tuesday, August 21, 2007 4:10:49 AM

My perceived offense and worry is on another blog...

The Lion King is a take-off of Hamlet? I loved that movie lol

Maybe I just need to digest each sentence, word for word, or something...

I'll work on this and let you know...

Thanks a bunch!!!

Christygreathoneybear Tuesday, August 21, 2007 4:16:18 AM

You are so welcome. Shakespeare is wonderful. Don't let anyone tell you anything different.
