Opera Turbo growth

,

Over the first month following the release of Opera 10 approximately three million users escalated their surfing speeds with Opera Turbo. Those three million consumers viewed almost 668 million compressed Web pages. :eyes:

What do the statistics mean?

The numbers tell us that Opera Turbo solves critical bandwidth issues. People everywhere experience either slow, congested networks or must pay as they go for Web access. It is an issue that affects everyone, from the business traveler to the Internet café user. Opera Turbo has become universally useful.

How did you came to that conclusion? What if new users just try to click turbo and some of them forget to turn it off. How do you filter that kind of stuff out?

Also works great as proxy if your IP address has error connecting remote server... sadly, people don't know they need to actually turn Turbo on, they think problem will solve just by using Opera.
But luckily, once they discover how amazing Turbo is, they want it on their phone ;p

I think, opera turbo is on automatic mode(it is turned on, when slow connection is detected) by default. If it is not, I suppose that it should be in the future releases.

It is (iirc), but i was referring to cases where Turbo is used as proxy server (site's server blocking IP, local admin blocking pages, etc)

Somtimes i try use it for http file share. Always somebody already downloading something with the IP. If you want a real proxy, try the OperaTOR.

Hmmm. all this is fine about Turbo, but the problem is that it seems to NOT work with Vodafone 3G gprs/umts pay as you mobile "broadand" USB stick. Turbo always says "Opera Turbo is currently not available. It was not possible to establish a connection" ... if any one knows a workaround I'd be grateful as the speed with Voda USB stick is from 5 kbps to 90 kbps !!!!

For a mobile phone, you want Opera Mini. Opera Mini automatically uses turbo compression technology, in fact it had it first.

"Those three million consumers viewed almost 668 million compressed Web pages"

Are there any stats for total mb saved?

Turbo has been invaluable to me. Saved me countless times where it otherwise would of been impossible to surf.

Opera is cool

jkforde 26. October 2009, 01:56

When on automatic (default state) Turbo is priceless when the contention ratio is maxed.

Opera devs, keep at it!! FF, Chrome etc. are only playing catch up to the inventive geek in the class!

It's not much of a success in China when access to Opera's Turbo server is blocked by the government.

Lara 27. October 2009, 22:33

I do think the same!

Glen 30. October 2009, 12:25

I have never seen it work.

"Opera Turbo is current unavailable. It was not possible to establish a connection"

Its really very sad because my 3.5G connection isn't very fast at the best of times. Connection provided by three.co.uk
