Twitter Opera Widget

If you are on Twitter, you probably use an application to access content. Well, Opera has a sweet widget for this purpose. This is a special edition for Opera 10.2 alpha because it also works stand-alone, even if you close Opera.

Any feedback is welcome, so please give the Opera Twitter Widget a spin and let us know what you think!

If you use it as normal widget (not with Opera 10.2 alpha) it lacks a close button.
Fix that! ;p

Would be nice if it could also handle several Twitter accounts* and create a UI for that, i.e: have the option to have 1 joint stream for all accounts but also the ability to seperate them to 3 individual streams. Also, Lists support?

* at least from my own personal exprience with Twitter, it is good to seperate the content you are watching... So I have created 3 accounts, each follows a different set of websites/people/etc...

Using it already on Opera 10.10 and I like it bigsmile

really nice, and looks great in all my computers (XP, MacOSX and Ubuntu of course). Would be nice if you can start also from the wdget menu inside Opera...

They removed the "Widget" menu on 10.20.

Works finde with 10.10., too.
(I just tried, for I dislike the way widgets work in 10.20.)

If you start the Widget with an 800x600 resolution, the Widget is severely messed up. The widget will be too big, you won't be able to scroll all the way down, and the resize grip on the bottom right of the screen is not shown.

Further, if you grab the bottom right of the window and drag it in to shrink it, it will eventually break and the bar with the X on it will go out of view and you will no longer be able to drag the window, and therefore, won't even be able to close except with the taskbar button. Edit: Actually, it wasn't resizing and was just moving the window out of view. There's like a 1px spot at the bottom right of the window (in the 800x600 situation) where you can click to drag the window back into view.

Scrolling is really, really slow.

Personal preference: When clicking the retweet link, it should be "RT @user: " instead of "RT @user "

The dm and rt links are really close together and pretty tiny.

You should be able to resize the window on the edges too instead of just at the bottom right.

There should also be a little edge on the bottom for grabbing and dragging just in case the top part of the widget is out-of-view. Edit: Actually, there should be thicker edges for dragging on all sides. At least alt+space works though for moving.

Definitely needs a close button. Loading indicator is not well centered and stays a bit on the left side. Other than that, all is well. Thank you!

I like the Opera Twitter Widget, I love the fact that it auto updates. Please add more features though!

How about adding Lists, a Retweet button, the ability to look at my profile, the ability to view more than one stream at once, etc.

Overall it looks really well buit though, keep up the good work.

you also might want to add tooltips to let people know what different buttons do.

Different color-schemes would be great. I also would like to see a compact mode so that you put the Widget on your Desktop without cluttering it. Even though my resolution ist 1920x1200, the Widget it a little bit too big for my taste.

That's already implemented!

Actually even logged on the widget I'm not logged if I type twitter.com or visit a user profile trough the widget, that's what I'd like to be implemented.

Yes, Espen. I believe you cannot manage widgets in 10.2 like in previous versions, anymore sad

Ps. I am presently using:
S.E. W760a
With Opera Mini... Txs

Daniel HendrycksDanielHendrycks Monday, November 30, 2009 12:24:58 AM

@Crystal
I know there are Opera Widgets for Opera Mobile. I don't know which ones are available for it. Opera Mini doesn't have Widgets yet, I don't think.

Matheusmatheusfernal Friday, December 4, 2009 7:10:11 PM

This widget is great but it needs functionalities more than a redesign.
Like:
* New retweet support
* Favorite a tweet
* Display user profile allowing to follow/unfollow
* Lists suport
* Integrated url shortening service
Keep up the good work! up

I recently updated Opera to version 10.53. Unfortunately the Opera Twitter Widget doesn't work with that version. OTW was the best little widget I ever used for Twitter. The only similar one I've found is something called Twippera and it sucks. It show everything as having been posted 216 hours ago, has no search feature, and you cant re-tweet with it. I hope whoever developed the OTW will make it available for newer versions soon.

It kinda does, I waited a bit and it works, the main page is gone so I am guessing they are working on it
