Jul comes early this year!

,

God Jul

Jul is a big thing in Norway, and a part of it is giving away gifts to the people you love. Seeing how Opera loves our users, who could possibly deserve a gift more than you? love

We have being working very hard the past few weeks to bring you something special as a holiday gift. Although we don't usually do this, we are so excited about what we are working on, that we want to give you a sneak peek. ninja

On December 22nd we will release a 10.5 pre-alpha. We don't want to say too much and ruin the gift, but expect speed.

I think it's safe to assume that O 10.5 will also include Carakran.

WOW! Thank you soo much! Even Presto 2.4 without HW acceleration and without Carakan would be a great present!

But I hope you know, that nobody will want to test 10.2 Snapshots thereafter bigsmile

There is a small gap between Turbo and the Speed Dial where we managed to cram in some more speed wink

Sn3ipen Thursday, December 17, 2009 3:35:50 PM

You guys must be the busiest people in the world, comming out with updates at this speed:)

My guess is Carakan. The new JavaScript rendering engine that you have been talking about for some time. I cant wait to put my hands on that. smile

How fast is Carakan? Using a regular cross-platform switch dispatch mechanism (without any generated native code) Carakan is currently about two and a half times faster at the SunSpider benchmark than the ECMAScript engine in Presto 2.2 (Opera 10 Alpha). Since Opera is ported to many different hardware architectures, this cross-platform improvement is on its own very important.

The native code generation in Carakan is not yet ready for full-scale testing, but a few individual benchmark tests we ran show that it is already compatible with runs between 5 and 50 times faster, so it is looking promising so far.

How soon should we expect impossibility to speed-up opera caused by physical limits of the Universe?

Danieledarklink88 Thursday, December 17, 2009 5:44:33 PM

I really love you guys! Opera is going to regain the crown for the fastest browser! I hope Chrome will eat our dust!

I hope it's the new javascrip engine! bigsmile
The current one has really aged.

Shane Bundyoperabaker Thursday, December 17, 2009 6:12:53 PM

Opera 10.5 wouldn't be Presto 2.4 and Carakan would it? bigsmile

Cutting Spoonhellspork Thursday, December 17, 2009 6:47:52 PM

Sweet. So this will be a pre-alpha from Labs or Core? I take it the next phase will be 10.20 in-count, 10.50 tentative; same as 10.00 in-count, 10.10 tentative not long ago.

More speed is an alluring statement though. From the Top Gear test of a Koenigsegg CCX: "If this was my car, I'd never need nicotine again!"

Vladqasalater Thursday, December 17, 2009 6:52:24 PM

looks great!
I want 2 test Carakan up
