How important is browser security to you?

,

Last Friday, January 15, the German and French governments recommended that all Internet Explorer users should switch to an alternative browser. We are pleased to see the word about Opera's track record for Web browser security is spreading; Opera downloads in Germany doubled over the weekend!

According to Secunia, a respected firm that tracks security in browsers, Opera has a strong reputation and track record when it comes to browser security.

So, if you're using Opera already, congratulations on making the smart choice to keep yourself safe online. Be sure to tell your friends and family to stay safe as well. Here's a few pointers how to make the Web more secure:

  1. Sign up for the Opera affiliate program.
  2. Promote Opera on your blog, Twitter, Facebook etc.
  3. Keep track of how many friends and visitors you've saved today!

5 Break into people's houses, install Opera, set it as the default browser, and reset the screensaver to "You're welcome".

Great idea but to too many users Internet is just the blue "e" on the Desktop. So we have to hide the "e" an put the "O" on the Desktop an name it "Internet".

Or Onternet. It's strange. I wonder, if Opera got to be popular is it still safe as now? I bet, the answer is no.

the crucial point here is, however, that those governments recommend to TEMPORARILY switch to "alternative browsers".

declaring IE as a security issue/hole in its own right is long overdue. but will this ever happen in a world where companies make their employees still use IE6?!

Might want to add to your blog post that the Australian government is also warning users about the pitfalls of Internet Explorer!

I've always used Opera. And in my job (I'm a teacher) I saw a lot of my class using Firefox Portable, as we're all stuck using Internet Explorer 7. Not my choice, it's the college!

Anyway, after half an hour explaining the benefits of Opera, 10 out of the 12 users who use Firefox have migrated to Opera and all say the same thing. It's fantastic!

The widgets help as well smile

They want IE 6 users to update to IE 8 (Windows 2000 users can't use IE 8) which I would say would be much much more secure than IE 6 (no phishing protection at all)

Firefox now takes 35 seconds to load on my 2 GHz PC. Opera loads in a second or two :-) By bye Firefox

How does one delete a bookmark? Help doesn't seem to offer a clue.

Click on "Bookmarks", and then "Manage Bookmarks". This will open the Bookmark Manager in a separate tab. Then you just delete the entries...and Empty Trash if you want them permanently removed.

The only downside that I can find in the new Opera is that is not working anymore on Win9x :(
Opera 10.10 is the only today's modern browser FULL COMPATIBLE with those systems.

I once or maybe even twice, actually threatened my oldest niece that I'd actually do that when she least expected it. lol She was adamant about her Firefox ... and on her Mac, Safari. I told her if I had to break into her house to do it, I was gonna get her hooked on Opera. She refuses to budge. bomb

Yes. 'vorübergehend' is temporarily.
Edit: They can not do it any other way, obviously. They must not recommend any products and they must not tell any people to avoid any special brand. All they are allowed to state is, that there currently is a problem with a specific version
