Download Opera 10.50

Today we released Opera 10.50 for Windows, the fastest Web browser thus-far. Opera 10.50 is available completely free from http://www.opera.com/.

Catching lightning in a bottle... er, browser

Opera 10.50 is the fastest browser we have ever produced. Under the hood, we introduced a new JavaScript engine, Carakan, and a new graphics library, Vega.

Private browsing

What you do on the Web is up to you, no one else. Make sure it stays that way by using private browsing to remove specific sites from your browsing history. Unlike other browsers, Opera 10.50 allows you to browse privately in a tab or in an entirely separate window.

Platform integration

On Windows 7/Vista, we let Opera enjoy Aero Glass, as well as supporting Aero Peek and Jump Lists. Now, you can easily access your Speed Dials, tabs and more from the Taskbar.

I synchronized search engines via my.opera and I can see only some favicons. The others stay blue... I did a clean install.

Gereford Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:06:26 AM

What about this function.

Download acceleration software compatibility
Support is added for download acceleration software (user option), which integrates a user's favorite download accelerator with Opera.
Check box activation is located at: opera:config#UserPrefs|UseExternalDownloadManager

Who can explain me how it to use?

ldeane Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:17:43 AM

It's a great improvement - the simple gui is what you notice first - a little competition ( the dreaded chrome ) is no bad thing - quite beautiful! And, then, all that's underneath. A Ferrari - and for free! Wow!

Z1-AV69 Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:17:53 AM

Thanks a lot for all the hard work you did in recent weeks. I hope you can relax a little bit now. But first I would suggest putting a new image on this page: http://www.opera.com/browser/?source=choice&language=

ldeane Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:24:48 AM

However, I'm still having problems with opera synch not shutting down when I close the browser - is that common?

Mustafa OğuzinBusteR Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:28:54 AM

@ldeane
Try to clean up your local stored Opera Link data. (Speed dial, Searches, Bookmarks etc.) then login Opera Link again to sync.

DillonAstrophizz Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:32:52 AM

Nice, but you guys picked some of the weirdest resolutions for the wallpaper, haha. They're all 5:4 aspect ratio and the only 5:4 ratio screens I know are 1280x1024. There's no 4:3 or 16:10 (or 16:9) wallpapers.

Harish Lakshminarayanaharish-l Tuesday, March 2, 2010 8:35:36 AM

working smooth here.. no hiccups with my browsing!
@Ideane a clean install usually takes time to sync. No probs here with both an upgrade and a clean install on win7.

@Gereford Opera does not natively support External Download Manager integration say via plugins (Its native DM is just gr8, do giv it a try). Its to be configured via the external application.
FDM/Getright/DAP do have options to take over downloads from Opera, fiddle with their settings smile

Iz awesome!

User comments on german tech-sites are far more positive than with previous versions. Almost no ranting about Opera, which was common in the last years.

YongShunyongshun Tuesday, March 2, 2010 12:04:05 PM

Chrome is trending but Opera is not...wtf... sad

Gampos Tuesday, March 2, 2010 1:05:06 PM

Good but...The search via . and , doesn't work properly... I need to push F3 to search a phrase. Does anyone has the same issue?

Edit: it appears that's the fault of upgrading from 10.10. A clean install solves it.

Edit2: $@$@$@^%&! Don't ask how but it's not working again on a clean install... This pisses me off, argh!

Daniel Ziltenerzilti Tuesday, March 2, 2010 1:41:06 PM

Hey, the Opera.com main page is right now one of the best designed ones I've ever seen! Congratulations!
And the browser? Oh well, that one's the best one, too bigsmile

Lukaslksd Tuesday, March 2, 2010 2:08:01 PM

smile Yey !

Victorsilaser Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:47:48 PM

Thanks guys very much but I've found a solution to my problem. It seems the stable 10.50 version is having some serious problems with proxy. If anyone is having problems with slow Opera 10.50 and using a proxy try this:

go to
opera:config#Proxy
and enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy and it should work perfectly.

Damn, the 10.50 is fast smile

powrtoch Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:58:57 PM

No problems here. And this thing beats the hell out of every other browser on the market in javascript speed. Excellent UI upgrade, and hooray private browsing. More and more I don't know why anyone uses any other browser.

Oh, the "Features" page has an editing error. You placed "read more" in the fraud protection blurb, yet there is no link.
