Does it mean I have to switch to Opera in the desktop?

opera link is NOT working at the moment for me. trying to sync from my opera browser(10.5) to ipod, it's broken at this present time.

No, but to synchronize your data, you need to use Opera at least once.

Same here as in the post above mine: Link doesn't sync any bookmark to my iPhone's Opera Mini.

WARNING: If you synchronize Opera desktop 10.* browser with Opera Mini 5, then you may not be able to use subfolders on Opera Mini 5. Last time I tested this, Opera Link removed all bookmarks from Opera Mini 5 subfolders and scattered them around, either into Opera Mini 5 bookmarks root or into Opera desktop 10.* bookmarks root.

EDIT: Turned out it's probably just me having this issue Please do test subfolders to find it out for yourself

You might have to wait a few minutes before synchronizing back to your phone.

Folks, I try to test synchronization of Opera 10.* and Opera Mini 5 subfolders as often as possible, and follow the news posted by developers. However, if you find out this is fixed, then please post about it on Opera Mini forum.

i did it over 4 hours ago. restarted browsers several times, restarted ipod etc, still not syncing:(

Opera link for iPhone is not working for me, it shows my 3x3 grid sites from Opera 10.5 but no bookmarks.

If this continues, then please report it using bug report wizard. Moreover, you may wish to seek help on Opera Mini forum where's currently this thread stickied for iPhone specific feedback.

alright, hopefully this will be fixed soon. this browser is brilliant, only needs some minor tweaks in certain areas and it will be perfect

Folks, once you have synchronized both, Opera 10.* and Opera Mini 5, then go to Opera Link to find out what really have been synchronized. You can access it via Opera Link on MyOpera top menu (up there ).

What are actually synchronized and how:
On Opera 10.* browser, all your Opera Mini 5 bookmarks should be displayed in 'Opera Mini' folder. However, for some reason developers decided not to show desktop bookmarks in the same way under Opera Mini 5 bookmarks. To use and edit your desktop bookmarks on Opera Mini 5, add either speed dial or bookmark for Opera Link like this:
http://my.opera.com/YOUR_ACCOUNT_NAME_HERE/account/link/bookmarks/

@Serola - Opera Desktop has different ways to sort your bookmarks and by default they're ordered by name. Opera Mini will show them in your preferred arrangement, which is named "My Order" in the desktop client. Furthermore, Serola, your issues with subfolders should be long gone since January. Opera Mini 5 and Desktop 10.50+ shouldn't cause you any problems with subfolders. Opera Mini4 is the only one that will not be able to read them.

@Everyone - keep in mind that since Opera Mini was intended for low-end devices, it would only keep a special folder synchronized - that is the "Opera Mini" folder. It'll automatically appear if you use an Opera Mini client and it'll get a special icon in your Desktop browser. Everything you put in there will show up in your mobile device.

OK, then I'll test it again Last time I tried was on March, and then I got all my Opera Mini 5 subfolders messed up on Sony Ericsson K800. And this happened when tried to synchronize Opera 10.5 for Windows. EDIT: I'll do it tomorrow at work, where I use Opera 10.50 for Windows.

If you have any issues with that, feel free to forward them to me, but we haven't had such reports since the final releases of Opera Mini, Mobile and 10.50.

No, you can access your data here in MyOpera using http://link.opera.com/
But I have a suggestion for you: use Opera on your desktop, it's awesome.

I have used Opera for many years and Opera Link is a great tool.

Unluckilly, lately I am experiencing some difficulties:

"An error has occurred while parsing data from the Opera Link server"

I have made a new account, purged all the settings from .opera folder (I use Linux) backed up my bookmarks, and then imported them. Login to Opera Link and all I get is this error stated above.

I agree, Opera is the best browser by a great margin.

I'm having the following problems:

I enabled Opera Link on my XP laptop a few hours ago. I just tried to sync my Iphone, and it didn't show any bookmarks.

I looked on my "My Opera" page and it says that there are no bookmarks in the folder. (There should be hundreds after syncing my laptop).

The FAQ said that exiting the Opera browser would force a sync, so I did that, reopened Opera and looked at the MyOpera page. Still no bookmarks.

(The My link status says "Opera link is running fine"

I'm wondering if showing no bookmarks is a timing issue. How long does it take your bookmarks to appear in MyOpera once synced?

@ Grosvenor21 - On laptop running Opera 10.*, notice the folder 'Opera Mini'. Only the contents of this folder are shared between desktop Opera 10.* and Opera Mini 5. So, on Opera 10.* save the bookmarks into this 'Opera Mini' folder to see them on Opera Mini 5.

However, you can also see all your other desktop bookmarks at http://my.opera.com/grosvenor21/account/link/bookmarks/

@ Others, just switch your account name into this URL or go to Opera Link via MyOpera menu up there on this page

First of all, where's the "Opera Mini" folder located? I don't see one.

And when I go to " http://my.opera.com/grosvenor21/account/link/bookmarks/" and click on bookmarks, I see only this:

There are no bookmarks in this folder.

I feel like I'm going round and round in circles

@ Grosvenor21 - Sorry, but I just have to make sure and ask this. Have you done as said on stage three on Espen's instructions? On desktop Opera browser go to Tools > Opera Link Synchronization > Enable Synchronization. Then on Desktop Opera browser you should see this 'Opera Mini' folder in your bookmarks.

Actually the Opera Link FAQ is pretty clear about what should happen:

How can I choose what to synchronize with Opera Link?

For Opera on your computer:

If you are not logged in, please skip to step 2.
"File" > "Stop synchronizing Opera"
"File" > "Synchronize Opera..." > "Options"
Choose what browser data you want to synchronize

For Opera Mini:

On the start page, click "Sign out"

Why don't I see all my bookmarks in Opera Mini?

All bookmarks from your personal computer are stored in the "More Bookmarks" folder in the bookmarks section.

Both things do not work at all here.
There are no options to choose from, and not a single BM is synced.

Is the iPhone version of Opera mini some kind of light version?
(maybe Opera Micro )

Yes. I've done this. And as I had already noted, the status says "Opera link is running fine". However, I checked through the bookmarks and I don't find an Opera Mini folder. I used the search function on the bookmarks just to make sure.

And I've followed the instructions that Netwolf posted above, and don't see a "More Bookmarks" folder.


P.S. I'm using Opera 10.51

Thanks. I went to that thread and am still completely baffled.

Seriously, this process is not a good one. It should just work, without having to jump through hoops. I've never had this much trouble trying to get software to sync. The process is really poorly conceived.

Opera Link works beautifully for me. Confused by all the people having issues. Could it be that some random settings of other programs are interfering with the sync process?

I have my bookmarks already in Opera link but still does not show up under bookmarks in Opera mini in iPhone

Here are the steps to enable synchronization

1. Open Opera Mini on your iphone.
2. Go to any random page and create a bookmark on the iphone.
3. Now open Opera on your desktop. You should now see an Opera Mini folder added to the set of bookmarks you already had.
4. Drag all your bookmarks/bookmark folders into Opera Mini. This will cause copies to be made in the Opera Mini folder.
5. Close and open Opera on your desktop (this would force synchronization from the desktop if it does not do it right away)
5. These should now sync to your iPhone within a few minutes (if you want it right away, disable Opera Link on the iPhone and enable it again). You should see all your links.

I agree that this is quite inane. The synchronization should work right out of the box when you enable Opera Link.

In any case, I like many features of the browser. Like the fact that there is synchronization. Dislike the fact that you have to go through non-obvious steps to make it work. Like the speed. Dislike the absence of pinch and zoom. Like Speed Dial. Dislike the absence of a screen orientation lock (present in Perfect Browser, for instance). Like the "find in page" tool (better than any other implementation for the iphone). Dislike the fact that it does not work with all websites and there are bugs (e,g. on certain discussion forumss, the Opera does not allow you to check the box to "log in automatically" - so you have to log in every time).

In sum, I will use this browser for its features, though not exclusively due to obvious limitations. Would love it if these issues are fixed.

OK, I tested synchronization once again between desktop Opera 10.51 and Opera Mini 5. I once again end up with some bookmarks messed up but I realized this was because I had some old remains of folders and bookmarks after my previous attempts under Opera 10.51 bookmarks.

Fix was the following:
I just started all over again I used Opera 10.51 to rearrange everything as I wish, and now they also seem to stay that way

Opera Link still needs much to improve. right now, personally i can't use it 'cause i never know if it down- or uploads the data = i already twice almost lost my data((
it may be that it's just me don't understanding the way it works.. maybe someone will explain it?
otherwise, hope Link will be improved- that is real good service to have in a pocket)

I may have missed the answer to this question but, here it is: how do I import bookmarks from browsers other than Opera i.e. FireFox, IE 8, etc.?

In each of the others you can do a export of the bookmarks and in Opera you can use the import bookmarks

And then you can even set up Opera Link, which you can access from any where in the world

Thanks Charles. Apologies for the late response. I figured the importing process out. Now working on the Opera link piece. Have two machines and would like to be able to identical bookmarks on both. Wish me luck.

Wait so can Notes be sync'd between opera desktop and opera mini? It doesn't seem like they can to me.

Opera will not import Safari bookmarks. I understand that you must point Opera to the Safari Bookmarks.plst, however when you do this Opera sees NO bookmarks_plst file.

Opera 11.50, Safari 5.0.5, Windows 7 SP1. Any help?
