Opera Mobile goes Android!

Opera Mobile for Android

As promised at the Up North Web conference, we present Opera Mobile for Android, the most requested application of the year! If you thought Opera Mini was sweet on your Android, it's time to go mobile--Opera Mobile!

This new version of Opera Mobile features old favorites such as Opera Turbo and Opera Link. It also introduces a brand new feature to Opera Mobile, pinch-to-zoom. Find the perfect level of zoom for your viewing pleasure without compromising speed or data compression while using Opera Turbo. You will be amazed at how sharp and easy to read the text is on all zoom levels.

Opera Mobile is, as always, free, and available to download from m.opera.com/next/ and the Android Marketplace!

The Great Big Android Wallpaper PostSay hi to the new Opera Portal!

The sunspider benchmark scores are abnormally low. Any idea why is it so?

Edit: Found my answer. According to the ODIN post JIT support is not present in this release.

Morphdreamer Tuesday, November 9, 2010 7:34:09 AM

yes

irolaru Tuesday, November 9, 2010 7:34:29 AM

hei, what's on? the webpage m.opera.com only contains Opera Mobile

ClashCityRockerclashcityrocker Tuesday, November 9, 2010 7:40:09 AM

Sunspider benchmarks very similar to the build in webkit browser on my HTC Legend. As this is a beta, there is clearly more room to move than the stock and device optimized browser.

Opera Mobile FEELS faster. I had a couple of FC back to the desktop without any errors, but again, its a beta.

Are there release notes, known issues?

Cool yes

V Pkroopie Tuesday, November 9, 2010 8:32:00 AM

Yep, it feels a bit unpolished still but soooooo much better and faster than the default browser on LG Optimus One / S / T (P500 / Froyo).

Good job Opera.

rocco Tuesday, November 9, 2010 8:33:52 AM

Hmm, takes quite a bit amount of RAM when running, 88Mb on my samsung galaxy s, with froyo. That is with one tab, with www.aftonbladet.se loaded.

gabriele vidalisuoko Tuesday, November 9, 2010 9:10:17 AM

Just kidding. Great work devs!

Not reading the release notes = FAIL. It's a beta, remember?

Skyfire has the lead? LOL. Skyfire can't even manage to keep their servers up when they get a couple of more users. Also, it doesn't support Flash. It supports transcoded video on SOME sites.

Skyfire = spyware = Spyfire FAIL.

HTC Desire users; delete Opera mobile and re-install it again. Make sure you have enough disc space.

Worked for me!

other device user can try this also I asume...

Already did 5 times doesn't work

Al Garciaalgarcia Tuesday, November 9, 2010 10:03:20 PM

There's some problem with fonts and tab management is sloppy, but i'm sure this will be fixed for the next beta version. For now, regardless of the bugs, I think it's still better than Android builtin browser. It's faster.

Spyfire FAIL
ha ha ha well said. Too many bugs for the first beta release.
It seems android users will have to wait few more months to get a stable version. But i like the way Opera is covering all mobile phone platforms. up

Opera lacks of Flash and Java, needed for chatting. Mozilla Fenex for mobile devices does include them.

No, Fennec does NOT support Java. Both Opera and Fennec support JAVASCRIPT.

Flash is not available because Opera Mobile is a BETA. Pay attention.

Gabrielagaby2300 Friday, November 12, 2010 1:16:46 AM

It really is a Beta: pinch yo zoom is very buggy, sites take ages to load leading to crashes, Speed Dial doesn't work very well either. Mini is much faster and works much better. I'll try again as soon as Mobile becomes a stable version though!

Caroloperainchicago Friday, November 12, 2010 5:50:08 PM

same here. love mini on my LG ally phone.
