Lets Compare ...Results!

, , , ,

Earlier this week I set up two identical polls, one in the side bar here on My Opera and the other on Opera Mini's Facebook Page. I was curious about the adoption rate of Opera Mini with those actively browsing this page and those who 'Like' Opera Mini on Facebook. Users shared some great Opera Mini stories in the comments, too.

Poll Results

A comparison of the responses to two identical polls, one place on the Facebook page for Opera Mini, the other on My Opera.

This is by no means an accurate sample, rolleyes but with a few hundred responses from each community, it's usable. So, what conclusions can we draw?

  • More than half of people that 'Like' Opera Mini on Facebook started using it at least 3 years ago. Wow, it's awesome knowing we've identified a source of long term users!
  • My Opera has a more distributed result. This makes sense; it's more likely My Opera users and stumblers will keep discovering Opera products, while the Facebook page is more of a post-discovery group.
  • There are people that chose to 'Like' Opera Mini on Facebook that don't use Opera Mini. Um... what? drunk
  • There are My Opera users that don't use Opera Mini, but that makes sense because My Opera isn't all about Opera Mini. Sometimes it's about sheep in the snow, distributing your app, and droids.
What conclusions did you draw from this experiment? wait While you ponder this, look to the side bar and tell me what else you're up to this weekend in the new poll.

Those people who liked Opera Mini on facebook but don't use Opera Mini most probably use Ucweb on their cellphone. Shame on them! down

Y'know, some people click "Like" to get the word out to their friends. What, like I'm going to repost something that's already there when my friends can just read that I've "Liked" it?

Some people take Facebook WAY too seriously confused

I think the Social networks are a great tool for promote, share and spread the word about anything, and that idea should be take further by Opera. idea

You can achieve more users if you make more promotion on the Social networks because this is the tendency, the Socials Networks is now the first activity on the Web. So keep the spirit Opera and continue socializing even more!. bigsmile

By the way you have a faithful follower in MyOpera (the best yes) , twitter and facebook.

P.S for me the weekends are for know more about Opera and support it! happy

Opera Mini has given me access to Internet wherever I want. In fact, I almost won't go to cybers ever since, for it's more comfortable to stay home and buy a data pack. Also, when my sisters stick to the PC for their long monosite session (they no longer live in the real world, they live in facebook now mad ) I can still use my "non-smart" phone with Opera Mini. bigsmile love

Rachel what you mean with expensive? confused

Actually almost all products from Opera Software are Free of charge except those that are business solutions (Network operators, Mobile OEMs, TV and device OEMs, Content partners & advertisers) and don't think you and your friends are within this category. whistle

RachelRachelJuleiane Sunday, May 1, 2011 4:31:48 AM

@Julian- they are prepaid mobile users so everytime they connect to internet they are paying per mb/minute. I am not really particular how their network charge them but that is the reason they gave me, wink

I would love to use Opera Mini. But!!!
My cellphone is Net10 and the phone won't let a bunch of third party stuff work, including opera mini.

Ironu1k70r Monday, May 2, 2011 7:16:31 PM

@Rachel that doesn't have anything to do with Opera. Opera provides web browsing applications and even include a function to compress web pages saving money. Last week I had my last $3 on my mobile and was able to check my Gmail out of $2 thanks to Opera Mini. Now my service provider released a $1 unlimited pack for one day, but even so Opera Mini remains the best option to browse most of the web at a reasonable speed. Now as far as Facebook is concerned, one year ago I taught my sisters to use their old mobiles to check Facebook with Opera Mini and they have done it ever since almost daily. If your friends think it's expensive, they should change their provider. (figures are Argentinian pesos, €1=AR$5)

Or in some cases, it's all about Opera Mobile, not mini bigsmile I've been using Opera Mobile about 3 years and used mini a few years before that, not quite sure when I started using it.
