Oprah Winfrey: We will miss you

, ,

Today is the last Oprah show in the history of television. To us in Opera this is really sad news. This show has brought us great joy throughout the years. We've been receiving lots of mail from Oprah fans, asking us questions, complaining or simply just opening up, telling us about their lives. We've tried to answer these emails the best we can.

As a tribute to Oprah and her fans, we've been digging in our mailbox in order to give you Opera's 'Best of Oprah mails to Opera" best of.

Enjoy!

Haha, funny conversations.

I wish Oprah the best in her forthcoming endeavours. Thanks for all your shows. I may not have watched any single one in full, but I know you have done a lot for people sitting in their sofas in their search for depth in their lives.

haha, never thought you'd be on the receiving end of such emails.

You guys could have had a load of free publicity for the cost of four Hannah Montana tickets. Mean browser company turning the kid down. awww

Although you did probably save them from being cooked and eaten by Billy Ray Cyrus...

In other mildly related news, I've got a TV show starting up in the fall. It's called "Hunt, Kill and Skin Billy Ray Cyrus". If it works out well I'll be back next summer with "Hunt, Kill and Skin The Cheeky Girls".

Very nice responses bigsmile

Though I think anyone would have a hard time tracing those millions of dutch Mark, specially since it does not and never did exist.

Michael Tamichaelta315 Wednesday, May 25, 2011 10:36:14 AM

i don't know is it because the name opera sound bad, or others browsers, companies jealous with opera, but on many website that have flash, some says this browser is not compatible, the recommended browsers are firefox, chrome, safari and ie...

I hate it!!! why opera is not on the list? it's a brilliant browser!!! far more effective than chrome, far more less resource than IE, safari and firefox, fastest browser in my opinion!!!

Shame on those websites!!!

<3 opera 4life!!! bigsmile

Hi!

Isn't it illegal, to publicly share mail that was not intended for you? Without the consent of the sender, I mean. Which I believe is the case here.

No, it isn't.
I know many bloggers that publish dumb e-mails written to them regularly;
netiquette usually requires to hide addresses,
unless you really hate the sender:
in that case they leave name, surname and mail address.
No legal action can be taken, on the basis that you (the sender)
write at your own risk to certain people.

Dj Alex DubcheckAlexDubcheck Wednesday, May 25, 2011 5:17:08 PM

Those mails show the high writing/reading skills
and the good taste of the Oprah Show audience.
A great proof-reading

Suntana Wednesday, May 25, 2011 6:57:32 PM

Hmmm ... I just realized I spoke too hastily in my previous comment.
As I used the word "conniption" in a comment elsewhere, it quickly came to mind that I learned that word many years ago from ... left right Uhhh, from Oprah. o OMG! Oprah taught me a word. I guess she did serve a purpose after all those years.

Hahahaha! Amazing! At first, i was confused, because in Brazil, some of us are used to pronounce the "O" of "Opera" just like "Oslo", not like "Ozzy" e.g. Then i realized that "Opera" and "Oprah" has almost the same pronounce in english! In portuguese, "Opera" may signify a verb in the 3rd person of singular, of Present-Time. It also means a "concert" in which are played classic music (Opera, just like the english meaning)bigsmile

Consider your age is 2011 - yearborn, and then you add yearborn - 1900 (to get the last 2 digits, assuming you were born in the 1900s). What you get is:
(2011 - yearborn) + (yearborn - 1900)
The year you were born cancels out:
2011-1900=111.
Nothing magic there, and probably not a "coincidence."

Makes more sense when you think of it in smaller numbers (AKA after 2000). If you were born in 2004, that was 7 years ago. The year 2000 was 4 years before that. 7+4 = 11, the number of years its been now since 2000 (hence why the year is currently 2011). The "Pre Y2K" formula calculates the number of years since 1900.

Long story short, I'm bored and like math.

edit: oh yeah, and best of luck to Opera and Oprah in the future!

luckymutt Thursday, May 26, 2011 4:50:43 AM

We should all send Oprah emails and tell her how AWESOME her web browser is!

luckymutt Thursday, May 26, 2011 4:55:56 AM

BTW (and I SWEAR I am not trolling) but when I middle click to scroll down this page (using Oprah browser) the cork-board image background disappears/turns white. (and yes, in ie and ff, the cork-board background remains and scrolls properly)
sorry...oh, I am using Opera 11.11 on XP x64

There used to be a guestbook at the opera.com site, way back when, and there was a lot of messages there for people thinking they were at the oprah.com site. I wonder if those messages are still around somewhere smile

ssain Thursday, May 26, 2011 9:29:54 AM

I am shocked and dismayed.
...
How come you didn't recommend TNT to the 9-year old? :U

And yes, I wonder too if this mistaken identity works both ways..

I just heard about this on the local radio station! Glad to see that Opera is getting more and more exposure in the US smile

Alvaro Bretelalbretel Thursday, May 26, 2011 7:19:40 PM

About the email from the 9 year old. It’s such a nice marketing action from Opera, creating an emotional relationship with that kid. I’m sure, when he grows older, he’ll remember the browser name and download it, just based on the response he got. However, I believe that they could give the kid tickets for the concert. Imagine a kid going to a Hannah Montana’s concert for free thanks to Opera.

Dustin WilsonKhadgar Thursday, May 26, 2011 9:20:27 PM

Yeah. CNN's reported on this as well.

I've been telling people over and over, for years: Oprah is the best web browser in the world. Integrated email client, bittorrent client, and countless other features -- including Dr. Phil.
