Opera Mini and Opera Mobile now available in new versions

,

Opera Mini and Opera Mobile just got... better. Today we released an update which bumps Opera Mini to version 6.1 and Opera Mobile to 11.1. It has new features we know many of you have requested, such as:

  • Search suggestions from Google and Yandex will appear when you start typing in the search field.
  • You can now search directly from the address bar! The search option will appear in the drop down list when you type something.
  • The text selection is greatly improved for touch screen devices. Just click on the text you want to select, then drag the handles to adjust the selection and press "Select".
  • Opera Turbo improvements for Opera Mobile. More speed!
  • Improved picture quality for Opera Turbo using WebP.
  • And more!

Check out our shaky hands down video introduction:

Crashes and crashes on Opera Mobile 11 in my XPERIA X10 Mini.

I'll try this new version. wink

Opera Rules! cool

Grrblt Thursday, June 30, 2011 6:20:10 AM

One of my most missed features on Mobile is nicknames for bookmarked sites. I think it's more important for mobile than desktop version, seeing as it is much more tedious to type long website names or navigate in bookmark lists on a phone than it is with a proper keyboard and mouse.

Unfortunately it seems that it's still missing sad

Also, it seems that when I enter something that's not an URL into the address field, it seems to use the "I feel lucky" google search instead of a regular googling. Not what I want it to do, and I can't find a way to change this setting.

Daniel Ziltenerzilti Thursday, June 30, 2011 6:32:28 AM

The new text selection rocks! :B
But I agree with Grrblt. And something else - I have more than 9 Speed Dials on Opera Desktop, and they get synced really weird onto my mobile browsers.

Ramdan Adler Blythermdn13 Thursday, June 30, 2011 6:50:41 AM

yeahhh... the two of them works like a charm on my Samsung Galaxy...

post the bugs later.. if any

thank you Opera <3

Wait... What about Opera Mini 6.1 for Windows Mobile 6.1? Please, don't tell me it won't happen...

Same here. I have 10 speed dials on my desktop, but on my mobile I see only 7 speed dials and they are in the completely wrong order and speed dial 6 and 7 are just plain empty...

Any ETA for the iOS version?
I hope it will not take a year like it took for v6 to finally arrive on iOS...

Junaid Ahmed ShawonShawon584 Thursday, June 30, 2011 7:29:17 AM

The opera mini 6 shows "out of memory" frequently and automatically close after loading 2/3 small pages in all Nokia 2700 classic. Hope the new version will also do so.:-x

BS-Harou Thursday, June 30, 2011 9:32:04 AM

when the exit button is enabled the help button should be disabled so there wouldn't be extra row in menu

BS-Harou Thursday, June 30, 2011 9:37:04 AM

How to move cache from internal memory to SD (on android):
1 - go to opera:config
2 - search for: cache directory4
3 - It should find two options
4 - change them both to somethink like: /sdcard/opera/etc...
5 - save it and restart opera smile

Excellent!

One thing (probably a bug) that I noticed quite soon after I launched Opera Mobile 11.1 on my E51 - when you use 2, 4, 6 and 8 keys to scroll up, left, right or down respectively, the page continues to scroll almost until reaching one end after hitting the key once, instead of scrolling just one screen in the chosen direction. I'm going back to 11.0 if this can't be resolved, and I hope that it isn't the same with Mini 6.1, which I haven't tried just yet.

That question is too vague to be of any use "HTML5" is a huge specification. Opera Mini already supports parts of it.

Windows Mobile is dead, and your phone is too old anyway.

Blaz(ž) Pristavitalianjob44 Thursday, June 30, 2011 6:22:21 PM

Well i got a dumb question, on Symbian Nokia 5800 there was an Exit button, but in Samsung i5800 if i want to close Opera i need to open process and close it there, it's not closing Opera if i press back button, that will just do minimize!

Alexandrsan-vlad Thursday, June 30, 2011 6:26:01 PM

Junaid Ahmed ShawonShawon584 Friday, July 1, 2011 2:20:26 AM

Thanks:-). It doesn't show "out of memory" on my Nokia 2700 classic again. It(6.1) works very better than 6.0. Thanku.

mgajga Friday, July 1, 2011 2:31:31 AM

On opera mini, network test says you have a working connection. But impossible to open any page : convention failed. CONTRADICTION.
I noticed the same problem on wednesday 29th june on opera mini 6.0x even before upgrading to 6.1 .
So I think it is an opera internal server problem.
Sincerely hope it returns to normal on my wap connection.
Thanks

New Opera 6.1's text selection isn't working properly for non-touchscreen BlackBerry, or in my case, the Curve 8520 (with OS 5.0): it moves the viewport away when trying to select text. Worked well in 6.0.

Charles SchlossChas4 Friday, July 1, 2011 5:31:57 AM

very cool

the use of webp is awesome

Again no update for iOS. sad I was waiting a long time for new Opera but after initial excitement i must say i'm disappointed. Opera Mobile on Android is much better. In the future I would like to see Opera Mobile for iOS not Opera Mini!

Windows Phone is a failure.

Opera Mini 6 is in the iOS app store, they may have sent Opera Mini 6.1 in but it has to be approve just like every other app in the ios app store, so we just have to be patience and wait

TomislavCyberT Friday, July 1, 2011 4:51:04 PM

Yes i know it has to be approved and i hope that is the reason. But it wasn't mentioned in main post.

David Kinlay Daverogk Friday, July 1, 2011 5:01:38 PM

This is the first update that I've had serious concerns. Installs ok but when I came back, just a black screen. Had to downgrade to 6.0 update 3. Left a bug report Being using Opera mini for years. Using a HTC desire hd

Version of Mobile 11.1 is working great in my Xoom, except for Opera Link. When trying to log in with Opera Link, the browser stucks in the "synchronizing you data" step.
Anybody noticing the same?

jakerockz13 Saturday, July 2, 2011 10:40:21 AM

mgajga Saturday, July 2, 2011 2:27:08 PM

Opera mini 6 upgrade 3 introduced to wap connection. Out red working well till 28th of june. Since, no more works neither on 6.0 nor on 6.1. It shows: you have a working connection. Then connection failed. I think it is an opera internal server problem. Anybody can help?

David Kinlay Daverogk Saturday, July 2, 2011 2:55:34 PM

As above something is going on with Opera or Google servers. Never seen this problem in the years

Charles SchlossChas4 Saturday, July 2, 2011 3:47:08 PM

Ask in the forums, be sure to mention the phone and version of Opera mini
