Opera still Speed Champion

, ,

How we feel after winning stuff. How we feel after winning speed tests.

With an increased focus on browser performance, Lifehacker thought it time for another round of browser speed test. They pitted the four most popular Windows browsers against each other in a battle of startup times, tab-loading times, JavaScript powers, and memory usage, with some good results for us Opera users. The verdict? Well:

"Opera's still the speed champion, as usual."
- Lifehacker

We're more than ever dedicated to improve Opera's speed, but besides being fast, what's your favorite Opera feature?

Favorite feature? I can't live without mouse gestures, but custom search keys and tab stacking are very close smile

fefrie Tuesday, September 27, 2011 10:41:36 PM

Mouse Gestures and keyboard shortcuts, wand, tons!

Phriend Tuesday, September 27, 2011 10:52:36 PM

My favorite feature is that it comes with so much out of the box! My least favorite feature is how I can no longer lock tabs, though. Pinning them (and thus moving them all the way to the left) is not an option.

You can still drag the pinned tab back to its original location.

PeteTopgrey Wednesday, September 28, 2011 12:17:47 AM

I believe mouse gestures and tab stacking would have to be my favorites.

Swapnil RustagiSwapnil99pro Wednesday, September 28, 2011 7:01:54 AM

There is so much to like about Opera.

1. Speed Dial - The New tab page in other browsers is so poor compared to Speed Dial.
2. Opera Link - No other browser has Sync functionality that sync so much data.
3. Opera Turbo and Unite - The unique features of Opera.

And thousands of other built-in things.

D1sasterp1ece Wednesday, September 28, 2011 7:29:23 AM

Customizability.

D1sasterp1ece Wednesday, September 28, 2011 7:32:02 AM

By the way, I'm not affected by graphs, tests and so on - I will use Opera anyway.

DavideDosky Wednesday, September 28, 2011 8:13:43 AM

M2, mouse gesture, IRC
without those I can't use a browser

Arthur LutkevichusAng3r Wednesday, September 28, 2011 8:23:36 AM

Best of all features - Password Manager!

Kai OckendorfOckendorf Wednesday, September 28, 2011 8:44:40 AM

mouse gestures & Speeddial yes if you close the last tab, you always get your Speeddial...try this with other browsers: with FF you can't, IE & Chrome close the browser (FAIL)!

Asires Wednesday, September 28, 2011 9:15:20 AM

My favorite features is.. good working Mouse gestures, MDI, customisable buttons/menu.

ks328 Wednesday, September 28, 2011 9:39:12 AM

Mouse gusture, speed dial, customisable menu, password manager up

Michael Reyesmrmvreyes Wednesday, September 28, 2011 9:55:59 AM

Speed Dial, Widgets, Extensions, Opera Unite and Opera Link. Although the whole browser itself is my favorite feature!

sirnh1 Wednesday, September 28, 2011 9:58:29 AM

Customizable interface, Mouse gusture, link, speed dial and M2.

I do wonder: How much faster will opera be when it will have hardware acceleration? (hopes for a new snapshot with hardware acceleration p )

Taneltankest Wednesday, September 28, 2011 11:53:49 AM

Favs: tab stacking for sure, plus the speed dial salvaged itself with the extensions.

We did it! cool
We kicked their asses! headbang
yes

Eric J. Goershappyfunland Wednesday, September 28, 2011 12:51:38 PM

Fantastic! I especially like how the title lists all the other browsers by name and leaves Opera referred to as "and more"
Way to wipe the floor with them "and more"!!!
But, hey, as they say, speed isn't everything. What about customizability? "And more" would crush the others there too.

koshkalama Wednesday, September 28, 2011 2:15:04 PM

Mouse gestures - best of all!!!
+ mail client
+ tab stacking

Bayron Barquerobayronbarquero Wednesday, September 28, 2011 6:39:56 PM

The maouse gesture, is simply the best.
With the mail client, opera link, opera unite, download manager, Bittorrent client, speed dial with extension... Opera is just wonderful!!!pirate

Cutting Spoonhellspork Thursday, September 29, 2011 12:35:38 AM

The crazy thing after all this time, is that Opera has somehow ADDED features, made the download SMALLER, made slow connections FASTER (then made compressed pictures BETTER), made the whole program FASTER too. I consider this to be especially important.

Miihkaili penaltiespenttilax Thursday, September 29, 2011 6:25:44 AM

Linux netbook + Opera + flash = Poor performance. Another browsers work without any problems flash.

Uncle MickMickeyjoe-Irl Thursday, September 29, 2011 10:21:56 AM

what's your favorite Opera feature?

Opera Link definitely.

I have Opera installed on 4 PCs and my android phone. I'd be lost without having them all synced.

Laura Lee Randalllauraleerandall Thursday, September 29, 2011 10:37:24 AM

When ya got the right formula, ya got us! Congradulations Opera....keep going!

Onebitzeroonebitzero Thursday, September 29, 2011 11:27:47 AM

Opera is so fast now. Good job guys

AltWouss Thursday, September 29, 2011 11:56:39 AM

Mouse gestures + customizability of the gui. I have the whole gui arranged the way I like it.

Ide StoutjesdijkCrimi Thursday, September 29, 2011 12:00:52 PM

True, but that is an unneeded inconvenience, especially when I wish to lock multiple tabs.

If you lock a tab that is in a tab stack, it stays in its place and does not even shrink in size.
