An Up North Web goes well with fish cakes

Up North Web is our meet-the-press-fest. It's a day for eating weird Norwegian food (such as fiskekaker), product updates and releases as well as some big-picture thinking about where the Web is headed in the future.
Our CEO Lars Boilesen kicked high and set off the event in a great atmosphere. There had not been so many international journalists in Oslo since the Winter Olympics in 1952.
Christen Krogh, our Chief Development Officer, showed off a bunch of new and improved features in Opera 12 for desktop:
- photo booth functionality - say cheese!
- with hardware acceleration and Web GL, a new and improved gaming experience in the browser (yes, there will be Angry Birds)
- an alpha version will be released on Thursday (most likely)
We released Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile 11.5 for Android. It features a data savings tool: a very cool feature in our mobile products that shows you how much Opera compression technology saved you from downloading data.
Warning - Marketing blurb (copy/paste and tell your friends): No matter what phone or tablet you own, Opera technology improves your Internet experience with less waiting time and lower data charges.
There was also a panel discussion - led by Mr. Internet, Ed Palumbo. He managed to get all the grown ups to sit down and behave. Good job!
Hanne from Opera is super stoked about Opera 12. Coffee was involved. We hope.
Lars Boilesen, our CEO, runs on bean bags, coffee and fish cakes. Here with Opera 12 alpha in the background - churning WebGL like there's no tomorra'.
We're putting together a video from the event to go live by tomorrow. Hope you liked this update so far. There are more pictures in the Up North Web photo album. Got comments? Questions? Shoot!
