Oh. My. God. Opera 12 will have hardware acceleration. Good news!

Satan D. Lucifersupertrol Tuesday, October 11, 2011 8:22:26 AM

"Opera 12 will get "hardware-optimized graphics," says Christian Krogh. Acceleration FTW"

"The #UpNorthWeb meeting is looking really, really good so far. Feels like @opera is still ahead of its competitors."

I cant wait..

the suspense is killing me faint

we need the alpha now

abdur92 Tuesday, October 11, 2011 8:41:21 AM

The demos look amazing though. Tried a build on Win7 at home and it's pretty sweet!

"Opera 12 has revamped innards: new JavaScript engine, new HTML parser" posted by Stephen Shankland

Though I wonder if there is enough time for a new JavaScript engine. party wizard yes cheers love up

EDIT: Hey, I just realized Stephen Shankland is from CNET.

I think you are right. Stephen Shankland's big fault.

MichałEmdek Tuesday, October 11, 2011 11:18:15 AM

If all above is true then Opera 12 will be one of the most important releases. :-)
@Swapnil99pro They could develop it secretly for long time already.

Also I see that developers like magic dates, 11.10.11. :-D
So maybe beta or final could be released on 11.11.11.

Obese MauriceObeseMaurice Tuesday, October 11, 2011 11:20:24 AM

I came.

I also guess. Because on 14 July 2011 snapshot blog post, one Opera desktop team member posted the following-

....We have also updated Carakan to use an improved, compact object model which increases overall performance, and reduces the engine's memory usage by up to 6-7% (in some cases even more).

The Core team will continue to improve on this, and will post a more detailed explanation on the Core Concerns blog in the future.....

new javascript engine?

correct me if im wrong but the current JS engine for 11.51 is carakan(????)
if 12 REALLY does have new engine..am i expecting a 10x faster than carakan?

remember carakan is 7x faster(sunspider test) than futhark(v.9 JS engine)

if these are true then i cant really wait for the alpha

hope the "SOON" is today or this week love headbang

At the last UNW, a preview build followed one week after the event. I wouldn't expect it to be too long for this preview build.

The Register has focused more on the Mobile side

"Most, if not almost all innovations in desktop web browsing over the past decade have been created at Opera – and then shamelessly cloned by copycats: from tabs, to speed dial, to proxy acceleration."
