How green and clean is Opera Mini?

, , , ,

There are a lot of you out there reading this on your phones right now. How do I know? Well, let's take a look at the mystical, magical crystal ball of worldwide Opera Mini browser usage, shall we?

Ooh...

Aaah...

Pretty cool, huh?

Especially when you consider that each point of light streaming out into the universe represents one of the 128 million people who use Opera Mini to pull up about 80 billion - yes, that's billion with a capital B - Web pages every month.

Now imagine this: If all Opera users stood on each other's shoulders, we would touch the moon!

With so many people using Opera around the world, our servers have to execute more than a million HTTP requests per second. But calling up Web pages is only part of their workload - remember that Opera Mini uses remote servers to process and compress Web page data by up to 90%. Sounds like a hot, sweaty job, right?

Fortunately for our servers, they get to hang out in a cool and comfortable environment (even cooler than Norway): Iceland. Want to see where they live? Let this nice man in a suit give you the full tour:

Not only does this keep our servers calm and sweat-free, it's also good for the environment. Opera Mini servers draw on about 60% renewable energy today, and we are looking to boost this number up to 80% in the (near) future.

Just one more reason to love Opera!flirt

It's a bird, it's a plane - it's 3D Opera Man!The forgotten Web browsers

Let me guess, it's a WebGL page using Websockets for the data?

I remember when I first used Opera Mini. My second Motorola phone. I fell in love with this browser the moment I saw it. And, unlike so many products opera is still delivering. Vivat Opera mini!

opera mini is good. I wondered if anyone(national security agent) can recover packet between
opera mini client and opera server. I heared that opera mini is using encryption method
between them.

In korea, packets are inspected between routers, but it is not illegal. If I can avoid this, opera mini will be better.

It's using encryption so it's impossible for anyone to spy on you. That's why I always use it when I'm on open wifi networks.
