A shiny new Opera 11.60

, ,

Opera 11.60

Just in time for the holidays, we bring you the gift that keeps giving all year round: a new browser! Say hello to Opera 11.60.

We've redesigned everything from the inside out, starting with a brand-new HTML engine. More websites will work better and load faster in Opera - even secure sites using SSL technology. And not only that. Now vector graphics (SVG) can mix with HTML, enabling the next generation of Web applications.

Other great new features include a star function in the URL field which allows you to add your favorite sites to Speed Dial instantly, as well as a number of changes to Opera's email client to make it more intuitive and streamlined.

If you haven't gotten the auto-update already, go to opera.com. Or if you just want to read more about what's new, click here.

Gmail becomes more and more unusable with opera. The freakishly small default font is a huge problem. Composing email with gmail should never be a problem for any browser. If I cannot use gmail (I mean write email, not all the fancy google+ integration features which I don't care about), I don't know if I can use opera...

New little touches for the interface is nice i think, like taller tabs. There's an obvious performance boost too for complicated web pages.

Also there's no need for the search bar anymore, that we get search suggestions for Google, Wikipedia in address bar. Hope we get suggestions from many other pages.

Just a thing about the address bar, when you start to write a word and Opera suggests it, you go down with arrow buttons with keyboard to ctrl+enter but you can't because Opera puts a "g" in front of the suggestion. I think there shouldn't be any keyword before the term you get the suggestion for, so you can change the term after getting the suggestion or you can use ctrl+enter and other shortcuts to get .com, .net etc.

不好! Not good!

Now it puts histoy before bookmarks when typing on address bar! That's a huge no-no devs!! Example: Google Scholar & Google Maps in bookmarks, start typing and it listst 400 previous google searches and no bookmarks. WTF.

Never noticed this. Is it with "rich text formatting" enabled? (Never used that.)

True, disabling rich text formating solves the problem... To disable it it is sufficient to switch to plain text once and then it remember it for the time being.

please stop breaking gmail integration every time you release an update. i am referring of course to my choice of webmail providers every time i click a mailto link. yes, i know subpar email providers are paying you, but users really shouldn't have to edit an .ini file just to continue using gmail every time an update comes out.

nice update, by the way. opera seems to be much faster now.

Opera Mail does not work properly any more. The list of mails and the mail-preview are looking terrible, maybe a rendering problem?

xmichelm Tuesday, December 6, 2011 4:47:35 PM

New Operamail (I mean M2, is that the new name?) is great for feeds. Loved the changes.

Char0n Tuesday, December 6, 2011 5:50:36 PM

This new Opera (11.6) is great. Email client is fantastic. smile

Payapayaxy Tuesday, December 6, 2011 6:16:04 PM

On the plus side, I love the speed improvement. New email - like very much smile

On the negative side, Google music is still not working with Opera sad Gmail uses smallest font by default for composing emails

I love Opera, but constant trouble with Google services are killing it for me

You are still my favorite browser, guys, but seriously, fix Google things. Thank you smile

Ignoras Tuesday, December 6, 2011 8:30:58 PM

Everything fine, but doesn't works Google search.

nightweels Tuesday, December 6, 2011 9:25:59 PM

full screen mode still needs a lot of corrections specially in tab access and other tools...
And remember that quality is all about details and perfection wink

logytech Tuesday, December 6, 2011 10:45:47 PM

I'm waiting a bigger, bolder and faster fish.... i hope they catch it before the end of this year...
but i thinks it is mission impossible: ghost protocol level 3....bigsmile sherlock

SiDsidrolf Tuesday, December 6, 2011 11:07:24 PM

I've waited endlessly, hoping each new release would fix this, but every time, EVERY TIME I have my hopes dashed...

Facebook and other graphic intensive sites scrolling remains choppy as ever.

I still use Opera though, can't help loving it despite its shortcomings.

OK, my bad - I didn't noticed it (I suppose others will miss it too), because the arrow doesn't change it's look when hovering it. But still - I can't select sub-folders and the drop-down menu is to small. I will still use the [CTRL]+[D] combination, which is way more useful.
