New Opera Mini and Opera Mobile available

What's better than 9 Speed Dials? Unlimited Speed Dials. That's one of many new features released in today's update to Opera Mini and Opera Mobile.

Opera for Android and Symbian

For Android we have a product update and a new product release. Launching in its final version today, Opera Mobile 12 will bring more goodies to owners of Android and Symbian smartphones. In the goodie bag for Opera Mobile 12, you'll find:

  • WebGL on Android phones, for all things 3D and web. With WebGL on mobile, it'll be even easier to make games cross platform and to distribute them.
  • Ragnarök, Opera's HTML5 parser support, meaning better web apps and increased compatibility with websites. More HTML5 means more advanced web functionality.
  • Support for camera use in the browser.
  • More possibilities for customizing the Speed Dial of Opera Mobile, including entering as many Speed Dial entries as you like.

Get the final version of Opera Mobile 12 in the Android Market Place, or at m.opera.com.

Opera for Symbian, Blackberry and J2ME

Reasons good enough to install Opera Mobile back on my ZTE Blade, except... there is not enough internal memory for rather spacious Opera Mobile sad Therefore I probably stick with Opera Mini for Android and wait till those features come there (hopefully soon).

Nice update!

Can you recommend any links to pages that show off these new updates? In particular the new HTML5 bits and the camera?

Thanks!

Satya Ranjan Mishrasranjanm2002 Monday, February 27, 2012 9:17:49 AM

Downloaded on Sony Ericsson W995i. Works great.

tenkila Monday, February 27, 2012 9:23:20 AM

After updating, it completely stopped working on my Samsung Galaxy S sad

Any and all addresses I go to, it says "content blocked by the content blocker". So I can't access anything, not even the settings (opera:config) so that I could try turning the content blocker off...

So the update rendered the browser totally useless. I would have imagined that the release would have been tested on the oh-so-common SGS?

Should have waited before updating...again...

tenkila Monday, February 27, 2012 9:25:00 AM

Sorry, forgot to mention I was talking about Opera Mobile.

Mini seems to work great, had to switch to that but of course all my speed dial entries, bookmarks, and so on...gone...

Jens Berthelsenberthelsen Monday, February 27, 2012 10:18:50 AM

Will there be a MeeGo Harmattan release anytime soon? Maybe one in which you actually can choose to use the Meego keyboard instead of the Opera keyboard?

Mağruf ÇolakoğluZAHEK Monday, February 27, 2012 10:47:10 AM

It is really great and also thanks for Turkish translation...

When will Opera Mini for iOS finally display google.com page correctly and with full functionality as on Safari or Atomic Web Browser!!?? There are many other web pages that are not displayed as they should be (for example Facebook) but this is definitely the most important page to me. Until then no Opera on my iPhone.

Lanzaderas Jesrel DJesrel Monday, February 27, 2012 12:17:08 PM

you opera staff are owesome, finaly you did it!

But the icon is look ugly, previews icon is better than this operamini next,Home page is not good in Nokia E63,E71(360X240) because its not fit into screen ,look small.

1."You missed brightness control."
For me as a night time surfer I want to minimize the brightness of the screen to protect my eyes. Like UCweb has a nightmode.

2."You missed Opera skins like operamini 4.2.

RamūnasRamunas Monday, February 27, 2012 1:36:29 PM

Am I the only one who's experienced the complete, hopeless situation of no address being accepted but being blocked by the content blocker? Can't be the only one in the world...

Working great in my phone.

artmil Monday, February 27, 2012 4:45:29 PM

Opera Mobile -> Android(2.3.5 HTC Sense 3.0)
I use the same urlfilter as on the desktop and after upgrading to Opera M12 it started to block ALL PAGES... it worked fine in the old version.

Mohammad Ovais Khanmovaisk Monday, February 27, 2012 5:04:15 PM

Awesome work Opera team! Great version, working fine in my Nokia X2-01.
However, one thing I want is that if you can make shortcut tabs or large icons as in Symbian version for Java too, it will be great. smile

How Opera Mini Next auto updates? Also, Opera Mini STILL refuses to capture the password of Gmail.

Furthermore, how to experience the smart previews? Is it the same as the previous speed dial previous. In addition, the shortcut for the speed dial only works until position 9 (*9). Any speeddials located after position 9 have to be selected manually.

tenkila Monday, February 27, 2012 8:09:48 PM

OK, artmil seems to have the same problem as me - no address whatsoever is accepted, everything is blocked; so the whole browser (Opera Mobile on the SGS) is unusable.

Not a minor issue, eh?

Grrblt Monday, February 27, 2012 8:46:50 PM

Mobile 12 still lacks support for bookmark nicknames. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why. On a device where typing is slow and error-prone, why would you NOT want to give people the ability to visit their favorite sites using only single-letter names? I simply cannot understand why this feature has existed 14 years (since Opera version 3!!!) on desktop but still is not on the phone.

Other than that, my UI feels a lot snappier so good job on that. I'm not sure how to test the other news so I can't comment.

Please remove/add an option to remove the ugly empty Speed Dial '+'. It would be better to completely remove the 'Manage' button since it is nothing more than the 'Move' option already present in the Context Menu.

Speed Dials would be meaningful on keypad phones if all of them are assigned shortcuts. On my 240x320 screen, only 6 of them are visible compared to the previous 9. Can't their thumbnail size be reduced to fit the screen size?

While Opera Mini Next still misses the 'Desktop UA' option, opening Facebook links from 'Social Networks' option was cool but the 'Reload' feature doesn't work for me, atleast for Facebook (haven't checked Twitter).

With two big Thumbnails at the top and no option to fold/hide features like My News/ Social Networks/ Suggested Links, it is very difficult to navigate within 'HOME' and between HOME & SPEED DIAL.

Hope that Opera Mini 7 final comes with new features in addition to bug fixes.

MaxMaxzino Tuesday, February 28, 2012 6:31:37 AM

Finally got Opera mini next! I love it! Keep up the good work guys! up

My Opera Mobile 12 (S60) not support HTML5! What's the problem?! Support only for Android??? confused

Suhail ShahSuhailshah Tuesday, February 28, 2012 6:52:45 AM

Loading 6 Facebook updates in Social Networks takes thrice the time taken to load 1 full Facebook Page directly.
