This Week on the Web

This week, Opera was on the road and the small screen at the same time: showing off the Opera TV browser at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London. (Fun fact: a big party with horses takes place here in December.
In between meeting and greeting fellow fair-goers, our TV team was tasked with demonstrating the nuts and bolts of technology that work together to create the relaxing and effortless lean-back effect of using Opera on TV.
Meanwhile, continuing our little Opera stroll down Internet memory lane that kicked off earlier this week, check out the virtual time capsule of old-school tech sounds one nostalgic soul put together...
Now, turning to news you can really use: there were reports this week that phone maker Nokia has applied for a patent on technology that would transfer ringtones to the surface of your skin, in the form of magnetic tattoos. Good idea, right? Of course, the next logical step would be to make magnetic-ringtone-tattoos in the form of QR codes... it would solve a whole lot of problems in one go. Not to mention give "user interface" a whole new meaning!
Last but not least, because you know we are fond of space-related items here at the weekly web news roundup: passenger space travel is moving another step closer to reality. The wonderfully-named Elon Musk announced that ordinary consumers will be able to take a vacation to Mars (and back!) for a mere half-million US dollars in the not-distant future. What do you think? If you could visit any planet in our solar system, what would it be?
Personally speaking, I'd be up for checking out just about any celestial body - apart from Jupiter's moon Io in volcano season! (Too bad heavy tidal flexing doesn't equate to celestial surfing...)
Have a great weekend, everyone!
