Opera 12 beta launches
By Aleksander AasAleksander. Thursday, April 26, 2012 2:00:00 AM
Get a new look and feel with themes, use your webcam with websites and enjoy improved stability. Let us know what you think in the comments or in the forums.
Themes are a new way to skin your browser. With the new implementation, anyone can style Opera just the way they want. Check out some of the themes and learn how to make your own on Dev.Opera.
With 64-bit support made to Opera 12, startup times and page loading is faster than ever before. We now run plugins (such as Flash) as separate processes - this makes Opera a lot more stable.
Do you have a camera on your computer? By giving Opera 12 beta access to your camera, websites will be able to snap a picture of you directly - instead of uploading a profile picture of yourself. Check out some of demos on Shiny Demos, such as:
- Support for the Do Not Track header
- CSS3 Animations and Transitions
- HTML5 Drag and Drop
- Support for CORS — not the beer, but rather Cross-Origin Resource Sharing
- Opt-in hardware acceleration and WebGL

From an ux designer perspective, huge kudos on the decision to "cut out" Widgets and Unite. I hope that some of their functionality can be brought to Extensions to skyrocket its functionality, but otherwise it's a great step towards a less clustered and more comprehensible product.

Are you gonna obsolete SKIN too?

But there is no Opera Reader in the actual beta. Already a german news site has also misread this and are writing that opera reader is in this beta.

1. Noticed visual glitches with menu bar on WinXP SP2 with standard skin. With My Classic Skin Opera 10.00 Turbo they're gone. Reported as DSK-362414
2. opera:config doesn't load info on options ("No information could be found for this item." for every option). Opera 11 loads it without problems.
3. Themes?? You should call them "Speed dial Wallpapers" as it's the only thing they change. No buttons or icons or UI touched. In the current state they're useless, imho. I also have been very frightened when I hadn't seen an option to change a SKIN. Luckily the very ability remained so I just visited http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins and instaled a skin from there.
4. New Mail/RSS UI is nice, but still no Trash if only RSS are used (DSK-338993).
Testing further

-Speed Dial is much cleaner, with white border removed.
-No Speak command
Changes i want to see:
-make the progress bar view default as "show inside address bar"
-extension frames disappear when the progress bar is shown (page loads while extension frame is open)
make extension buttons visible all the time when using "show inside address bar" mode
