Opera about to get hacked in Russia?

Positive Hack Days

Positive Hack Days is an event taking place in Moscow, Russia. It is an event which brings together the elite of hackers in the world, thought leaders in the information security industry and representatives of the Internet community.

One part of Positive Hack Days is called Hack2own and Opera will be attempted to be hacked! This is a competition where hackers are allowed to demonstrate their skills in security analysis and hacking mobile devices (e. g. Apple iOS, Android), popular Internet browsers, and operating systems (skills in exploiting kernel vulnerabilities in current OS versions).

Will the hackers be successful in their attempt try to hack Opera? We'll be back with a coverage report later on how it went. Hopefully nothing happened.

Let see what happens.

MaxRRMX Friday, May 25, 2012 12:57:38 PM

I believe these guys will manage to *do something* to Opera. But I'm also sure that the Opera dev. team will fix the issue in no time to keep their browser safe.

Hallvord R. M. Steenhallvors Friday, May 25, 2012 1:00:00 PM

I think the best hackers, given time and tools, can hack pretty much anything. We will indeed see what happens smile

http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yes.gif - I agree

Opera has been said by many to be hte most secure, and for some banks it is to secure for them bigsmile

einszweidreivier Friday, May 25, 2012 1:06:52 PM

We all hope that they will find a vulnerability before the bad guys do so. :-)

victor valeravictorvalera Friday, May 25, 2012 1:16:21 PM

What can be their benefit in trying to do that? Are they gonna crawl into every member's systems? rolleyes Let's just be watchful within the entire community's activities...bigeyes

slackwrdave Friday, May 25, 2012 1:26:12 PM

As one of Opera's strong points is security, Opera will be a tasty morsel for a hacker to try to bite. chef

Alexodius PrimeAleksOD Friday, May 25, 2012 1:31:12 PM

It'd be interesting to see how Opera fares against other browsers in this competition. Go, Opera! knight

praetor87 Friday, May 25, 2012 3:01:02 PM

Russians know how to hack it.

Char0n Friday, May 25, 2012 3:31:18 PM

Opera team, keep my fingers crossed.

chocolatebaconwaffle Friday, May 25, 2012 3:49:14 PM

So will they do anything else than hacking it? I mean will they change the browser or anything? And what does it prove if Opera gets hacked?

SteveKong Friday, May 25, 2012 3:51:57 PM

Good news. I am really curious whether Opera can stand its ground. Actually I've missed serious attempts to hack Opera at previous events.

Anything can be 'hacked' I would thing. There are some very clever people out there who can do almost anything with software up to and including hack windows 7, and windows office 2012.

Hacked: We'll see. Be sure not to install the flash plugin - or is getting in through that against the rules of the game?

Facebook: Just wait a few months, then Opera can afford to buy Facebook lol

Please, DO NOT let Facebook buy Opera! It would be an enormous mistake! no

Think about what happened to Netscape after it was bought by AOL, it died and the buyers did not care at all!

I have to say that, quickly looking around the intertubes, I am slowly starting to believe the rumor... If it is indeed true, then we may as well kiss bye-bye to the desktop browser and prepare for all that compressed data from phones to be re-routed to FB servers for "better personalized advertising served to you right on your phone"...

Stefanusneatfuss Thursday, May 31, 2012 5:03:30 PM

What.. what is this? My life was beautiful before I heard about this rumor. Well, less crappy. Aarfggghh.....

Paulf666 Thursday, May 31, 2012 6:52:53 PM

reiddecuti Thursday, June 7, 2012 7:52:41 PM

nothing on earth is in secure hand. Not a woman, not a damn soul is free. Not even opera is free from hackers. Opera shouldn't brag of themselves. They should pray the hackers shouldn't remember them.
