Opera Remains Safe and Secure

Earlier in the week, we told you about the Positive Hack Days event taking place in Moscow, where Opera was one of the browsers that hackers from all over Russia could attempt to breach for the purpose of highlighting practical security online. The event wrapped up last night, and we got the full report from our local Opera representative.

We're happy to tell you that Opera was not hacked!

As a side note, we learned from this event that browsers are not generally a preferred target for hackers, since the amount of effort they would need to exploit any weaknesses would not pay off for them in the end. Apart from that, however, Opera is also one of the most secure browsers around.

Anyone who runs a Facebook account has taken a decision to use their 'faciliity' and as far as I know - from anecdotes I have read/heard about - FB seems to be a very much different environment from MyOpera.

I'm not a FB member and so I have no fears or worries about what will happen if FB is acquired.
Good luck to any one who stays because they feel it offers them something different.

I think Opera is the best! ... I'm not into the megworld of FB social networking and it's ...uhhh... different environment. left

Is there any solid news on the "Acquisition by Facebook" front? If Facebook buys Opera (and, by extension, MyOpera), I'm gone. Facebook seems to think it owns everything that is on it, and I am most vehemently opposed to having my work or words used by anyone but myself, or by anyone else without my express written permission.

dW, I hope it's all just idle gossip and nothing more than that.Some (who knows how many?) members have, seemingly, migrated to Facebook over the last couple of years and if FB suits them and has values they support then c'est la vie .... but the thought of Facebook coming here, in effect, to Opera, through acquisition, makes me shudder. Is there any where it's hands do not reach out to? I fervently hope Opera will not be acquired... but if that happens then once the FB-Opera "pseudo-honeymoon" is over, the team at Norway would have to evolve in line with the Facebook management structure and culture.

Prologue:

Stormhunter shuddered at the thought what might have been, if Princess Otrem Roh Deler's consolidated defence had not been successful.

He had arrived too late for the battle because the Wizard Vodi Fown had not completed all the mast connections in his part of the kingdom and so Princess Otrem Roh Deler's text message asking for back up was still some where in the ether.

He sighed. Ether magic worked or it didn't.
