Opera. Made for Android.

, , ,

Today, we released a beta version of the new Opera for Android. We have a whole set of new and improved features we're excited about. In particular, we'd like you to try out and give your feedback on the following:

Tabs. Better than ever.

From a thumbnail view of tabs to private browsing, Tabs on Android is made for the way you browse the mobile web. It's also even easier to mark tabs as favorites, right in the address field.

Discover. Stay one step ahead.

Get news, the latest cool content and other suggestions with the Discover feature.

Off-Road Mode. All-conditions browsing.

Formerly known as Opera Turbo, Off-Road compresses web pages so you can stay online even when your connection slows down or you're outside your regular network . Off-Road Mode also saves you money on data.

Download Manager. Made better.

With the ability to start, pause, resume and rename files, you can download and keep the movies, music and other media files you want at your convenience.

Give Opera 12 beta a new look and feel

Themes are a new way to skin your browser. With the new implementation, anyone can style Opera just the way they want. Check out some of the themes and learn how to make your own on Dev.Opera.

Opera 12 themes
Faster and more stable

With 64-bit support made to Opera 12, startup times and page loading is faster than ever before. We now run plugins (such as Flash) as separate processes - this makes Opera a lot more stable.

Camera and Device APIs

Do you have a camera on your computer? By giving Opera 12 beta access to your camera, websites will be able to snap a picture of you directly - instead of uploading a profile picture of yourself. Check out some of demos on Shiny Demos, such as:

More features in Opera 12 beta
  • Support for the Do Not Track header
  • CSS3 Animations and Transitions
  • HTML5 Drag and Drop
  • Support for CORS — not the beer, but rather Cross-Origin Resource Sharing
  • Opt-in hardware acceleration and WebGL

Opera 11.50 beta now ready for testing

Opera Next

Opera 11.50 has now reached beta quality and is now ready for testing. We've put a lot of effort into this, and we're pushing towards the final release. As usual, check out the Desktop Team blog for some serious technical discussions and feedback. Anyway, here's what you can expect (major new features) in Opera 11.50:

Speed Dial extensions transform your Speed Dial from a picture into live action! What does that mean? Instead of a static link to a weather web site, a Speed Dial extension can display the forecast for your specific location. In fact, we built that extension.

Speed Dial extensions are easy to make. All you need is a little tiny bit of web development skills.

The last big new thing about Opera 11.50 beta is synchronization of passwords - made securely through Opera Link so you can log on to your password protected sites from anywhere. Opera Link also synchronizes bookmarks, your Speed Dial, custom search engine preferences, notes (yes, you can take notes in the Opera browser), typed browser history and more.

What are you waiting for? Download Opera Next and try the beta today.
