The guy who wants to save the Web

, , , ...

David Storey

Everyone in the technology industry can understand the roles and responsibilities of Chief Executive Officers or Chief Financial Officers. David Storey is Opera’s Chief Web Opener. It may not be a title people identify with immediately, but Storey’s position is of vital interest to everyone who is interested in how the Web works.

His job description is fairly simple: make Web sites work in all browsers, and help developers learn and adopt Web standards. But while the task may sound simple, there’s a reason some at Opera call him the mission-impossible man.

Campus Crew success

Campus Crew members

The Opera Campus Crew has only been in action for almost two weeks, but wow... Talk about instant success! We have already received more than 230 applications (and accepted 212 which are now representing 191 universities in 34 countries). It's excellent to see how eager everyone is to get started spreading (and installing) Opera on their campuses!

Meet gefix, a Russian Campus Crew member, who has already managed to get Opera installed on 100 computers. :eyes: Pretty cool, huh!?

For preparation he talked to the chief of department administration on installing Opera on computers in different terminals. He agreed and the work began on making a special distribution of Opera... When it was ready, they installed it on one faculty server, which then links students to it (user profiles), so they can access it on their local workstations! Simplicity and efficiency in a nutshell! They now only need to update one Opera version on the server.

Check out the blog post on the Campus Crew blog for more information.

However, the Campus Crew members are not the only ones distributing Opera in a larger scale. Kudos to suribe for his dedication on spreading the word about Opera wherever he travels. Just check out his photo album where he installed Opera on many computers which are to be used for medical research. Good stuff!

Get to know Opera (article)

, , , ...

Back in August this year we had the pleasure of welcoming two journalists from Webhosting.pl to Opera's HQ in Oslo. This was a pretty big feature story about Opera and we were all very excited how the story would look on (online) print! Well, today they released it. :hat:

They have a lot of readers, so this is good for Opera's outreach. The most interesting part are the video interviews (see below for complete list!). This is an excellent opportunity to meet a handful of the people involved in the making of Opera. Enjoy!
