Infinite Mario

As proud members of the Nintendo Generation we love anything Nintendo related. Imagine our joy when we came across this amazing HTML5 port of Super Mario!

The HTML5 code Robert Kleffner used to create this game, is actually a port from a Java version by the rock star indie game developer Markus Persson, famous for Minecraft. Enough geeklove? Check out Infinite Mario in HTML5!

Ever wanted to be a lamp wielding, owl riding gnome? What if the gnome fights evil orcs and gremlins? Of course you have! Emberwind is a indie game made by Erik Möller and TimeTrap. During the summer three interns at Opera, Erik himself (who now works for Opera) and another Erik (Lindz) will work on porting the game to your browser using HTML5!

What a Year!

, , , ...

As the new year comes sneaking in, we would like to use this day to summarize how wild this year has been. Thanks to your support, we've had amazing success in our product launches and an unprecedented growth. Let's look back at some of the things that happened in 2010.

Opera Mini & Opera Mobile

Opera Mini tops App Store charts

Starting off with mobile, we can't miss out on the announcement that Opera Mini was coming for the iPhone. After we had submitted the popular browser to the App Store we followed up with the iPhone Countup campaign (the original title for this campaign was "The Final Countup" - Europe anyone?). When Opera Mini was approved for the iPhone, it broke all download records with more than 1 million downloads the first 24 hours - making it the number one downloaded application worldwide. To this date, this is one of our most successful (viral) launches ever and would not have been made possible without your help and support.

Opera Mini 5 was later developed and deployed across all platforms. Opera Mobile 10 also became a reality this year; even on Android devices. Both can be set to be your default browser on the Android devices! Clearly the best feature on Android! wink

The Android launch was was accompanied with a pretty wallpaper competition.

FastMail & AdMarvel

FastMail

Besides developing new products for the mobile scene, we also found time to acquire FastMail.FM. We have a lot in store for 2011 when it comes to mail and we are all looking forward to finally being able to provide all of you with a state of the art email solution.

Opera also aquired AdMarvel this year, which will soon offer interesting opportunities for content publishers. And, our own staff grew, there are many new Opera employees around the globe, like me! hi

My Opera received some visual and backend updates so you can keep blogging and uploading photos from your mobile devices.

OMG HTML5 IS HERE NAO

Biolab Disaster

Web technology with HTML5 and CSS3 became the buzz word to market in 2010 for major browser vendors. Some of the most important updates included a large scale deployment of the video tag. A lot of cool things was also done with Canvas. The Biolabs Disaster game is a good example of that. Our Developer Relations team did an excellent job frequently updating their blog.

Meet Opera 11

Opera 11

In the desktop market we did three major releases in 2010. We kicked it off with Opera 10.50, faster than any potato. The 10 series ended in 2010 with the release of Opera 11. Opera 11 broke all our previous download records. With extensions and an updated tab stacking feature, the stage is now set for amazing features and innovation in 2011.

P.S.: I'm interested in developing a narwhal translator myself, but others have created some far more useful extensions. Let me know if you want to join in on the project.

150 million users - Jon's email inbox exposed!

Back in April, we peaked 100 million users. Less than six months later, we saw a staggering 150 million Opera users. We recommend you check out Jon's inbox which was made publicly open to announce our 150 million users record.

You guys just keeps on giving

The most important thing this year was the amazing support we got from all of you. Your feedback and support here, on Facebookup , TwitterFollow opera on Twitter, and in comments we find all around the web have driven us to keep innovating. Thanks for recommending Opera to your friends and family.

Happy new year everyone. We have a lot in store for you in 2011!
