Is HTML5 turning into a buzzword?

An article published yesterday on PC Pro titled "Rivals slam Apple's HTML5 claims" you can read that: "Apple has raised the ire of rival web developers by creating an HTML5 showcase that can only be used in its own Safari browser". Further on, the article cites Haavard, an Opera employee, who wrote on his own personal blog that: "One almost gets the impression that "HTML5" is just a buzzword to Apple."

There seems to be no clear conception of what HTML5 is and isn't. Bruce Lawson, an Opera employee, has used his incredible design skills to visually explain what's HTML5.

The Future of Browsing - The Direction of Web Standards

With the Internet changing at a frenzied pace, we can expect big changes to how we will soon use the Web. In an upcoming series, I will present some ideas about where the future of Web browsing might be headed and what we, as users of the Web, can look forward to in coming years. In this article, we will look at the direction of Web standards, why they are important to normal users of the Web, and the state of progress of these standards over the past.
