Which web browser do you recommend for security reasons?

, , , ...

Staying secure on the web today is important, and choosing the most secure web browser is even more important. Much of today's malicious software is spread via the web, or has a web-based component. Here at Opera we take security seriously, and we have many features built-in to help you stay secure on the web.

In addition to our built-in features, we also offer extensions to Opera to further increase your online security with addons such as Web of Trust and Ghostery.

The website NakedSecurity asks: If one of your friends or family had suffered a computer security problem, what browser would you recommend that they use?

Opera 12.02: Secure all of the things!

, , ,

Opera 12.02 has just been released to address some important security issues. In that regard we would like to give you a tip regarding a new Java vulnerability that was announced. It only affects Java 7;Java 6 or older is not affected.

What's the best way to handle this for yourself in Opera? One solution is to activate the click-to-play for all plug-ins. From the main Opera menu, go to Settings -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Content, and click on Enable plug-ins. (See below.) This will also disable Flash, meaning you won't be able to watch videos, but on the other hand this should keep you safe until the Java problem is fixed.

Update: Sun has now updated Java 7, you should update as soon as possible!

Click to activate plugins

Now, let's get those downloads going! Free, fast and available right here!

Opera Meets Opera Van Java

, ,

Quite a few of our Twitter friends in Indonesia regularly tweet to us about a TV show called Opera Van Java, or OVJ for short.

Being fans of gamelan already, we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, since none of us here in Oslo speak Bahasa Indonesia, we were a little bit lost.

Here's where we you can help us out. Are any of you in Indonesia fans of the show? How would the Opera browser fit into an episode of Opera Van Java?

Give us your ideas in the comments!
