campus crew
Saturday October 3rd marked one year since the launch of the Opera Campus Crew! But unlike other one-year-olds, we have already gone further than crawling and walking... we are definitely running full steam ahead!
What a year it has been! By the end of the day on October 3 last year we had our first 16 members from 16 campuses in 12 countries, and today we have 1291 members on 674 campuses in 62 countries.
Since the beginning of the Opera Campus Crew so much have been achieved:
- Opera has been installed on over 8000 computers in almost 100 computer labs (with many more in the pipeline thanks to our hard-working members!)
- Opera Campus Crew members have organised 63 presentations and seminars for 5930 students and faculty members
- 18 Demo Days and info desks for 1820 people have been arranged
- 3 quizzes and competitions for almost 100 attendees
- 6 rounds of interviews/surveys with over 250 people
That means over the past year we have averaged one Opera Campus Crew event every four days! What an effort!
Opera Campus Crew members have also arranged six articles or interviews in campus or other media, and installed Opera in more than 300 computers in over 25 internet cafes. Several campuses have also handed out Opera flyers and postcards in their local community, worked on the standards compliance of their school or university website, and helped incorporate Web standards into learning on their campuses.
Happy Birthday Opera Campus Crew and keep up the excellent work!

Things never slow down on the Opera Campus Crew! There are now over 700 members in the team. Follow the links to see what our fantastic volunteers have been up to in schools and universities around the world.

• Vietnam: The Crew at the
University of Economics Hochiminh City generated a lot of interest from their display of the Opera posters (featuring quotes from My Opera users about why they love Opera

).

• Indonesia: To say thank you to
Gadjah Mada University (see right), our biggest and most active branch, we provided an 'Outbound' team building day. Check out the wacky things they got up to!
• Russia:
Novosibirsk State University now has Opera installed in their computer labs (see right). It's fantastic to give the students there access, well done!
• Sweden: Our member at
Kalmar University last week held Demo Days each day in the campus cafeteria during the lunchbreaks. Top work

.
Keep up the great work, guys! We really appreciate all of your efforts!

campus crew, success
This great success story comes from eztigma, Opera-fan and Campus Crew member. Keep up the great work!
Opera is the default Web browser in the English Lab at my school. Currently, not only English practices are being held there, but also research work, computer skills courses and some other courses for the teachers. The first time students sit in front of a computer with Opera installed, they feel a little bit odd to see a red O where a blue E "should be" under the "Internet" label of Windows' start menu, but their first reactions towards Opera are generally favorable, from "Wow!" to "It's beatuiful!".
Federico, like some students and fellow teachers doesn't have an Internet connection at home so he is a recurring costumer of a Cyber Cafe near to his place. He has been using Opera and thinks that it's a great alternative to IE, but to use it outside the lab or at home is impossible... or is it not?
I told him to download Opera@USB and he did, now he's extending his potential from plain and simple browising to tabbed browsing, saved sessions, synched bookmarks, notes and all the other Opera features that make Teacher Fede a happy Internet user like the download manager, the built in mail client, Speed Dial and of course, the privacy of having his own browser with his own settings at school, at work, at his local Ciber Cafe and even at home.
Like Federico, students are starting to jump into the Opera bandwagon by taking the browser in their pockets and being able to use it at every computer they sit in front of.

More news from the
Campus Crew, Opera’s campus representatives program for people passionate about spreading the word about Opera!
Last weekend, the Campus Crew branch at Krisnadwipayana University in Indonesia held a presentation attended by 30 people. One member happens to be a lecturer there in computing and multimedia.

The event was opened by the head of the informatics engineering department, and followed with an

introduction to the Campus Crew. The main topics at the presentation were Opera and its products, ‘Open the Web’, search engines and a closer look at Opera Mini. Well done, Risanto and Ragil!
Also from Indonesia this week, Adhy from the Campus Crew at Mahardika Vocational High School in Makassar installed Opera on 20 computers in their lab. Opera Software is sending him posters to make sure everyone in the lab knows that their new favourite browser is now available.
