Opera goes to eleven

, , , ,

This one goes to eleven!

Opera 11 beta is now available for download from www.opera.com/browser/next/. The beta is loaded with new features. Some are new, while others are improvements to existing Opera features like tabs and mouse gestures. headbang

Stack it like it's hot

We introduced tabs in Opera 1.0 back in 1995 (omg, long time ago) and we've continued to add new revolutionary things ever since. Visual tabs was just another step leading up to tab stacking. To try Tab stacking, simply install the beta and drag one tab over another. Release with your mouse. This will create your very own tab stack. Check out our tutorial video to learn more.

Visual Mouse Gestures

Mouse Gestures is an addictive feature in Opera. With Opera 11, we've made it even easier to get started. Hold down the right mouse button and you get a visual feedback what you can do with mouse gestures.

Extend your Opera

Introduced in the alpha version of Opera 11, extensions allow you to customize Opera like never before. You can add additional feature to your Opera experience. We have now more than 160 extensions available in our extensions catalog. For more information about extensions and features in Opera 11 beta check out the new Opera Add-ons Blog! headbang

Don't miss out, this one goes to eleven

Opera 11 beta is available from www.opera.com/browser/next/ for Windows, Mac and Unix. As always it's free, so give it a spin today and experience what the future holds!

Tab stacks heart !

Just one problem and one suggestion:
After stacking tabs, "Cycle in tab bar order" becomes not so much in tab bar order.
Also, whole stacks can be moved together if they're collapsed, but not if they're expanded. The expander arrow might work as a drag handle for the whole stack.

Abhinavdecodedthought Tuesday, November 23, 2010 7:18:25 AM

awesome !! tab stacks is really cool

Cheers to Opera Team cheers
Tab stacking is cool up

Joel Spadinspadija Tuesday, November 23, 2010 7:52:30 AM

I don't know if I did anything weird, but all extensions' preferences pages lock up with full CPU usage. If I open Dragonfly and refresh the page, it works normally.

Alexislexiz08 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 7:53:33 AM

Woah! And it's just 7MB!

FreeBrain Tuesday, November 23, 2010 7:56:49 AM

Is this Opera11Beta , the same as build 1111?

Artur „Jurgi” JurgawkaJurgi Tuesday, November 23, 2010 8:00:11 AM

Windows's taskbar stacking sucks, byt this seems to be handy.

Go to you preferences and point Opera to your language file under language details. It's usually located under %systemdrive%\Program Files\Opera\locale .

Daniel15daniel15 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 8:14:51 AM

Can I have both the Opera 11 beta and Opera 10 installed on the same computer? Does the beta run separately to the released version (separate profile, etc.)?

wazzup105 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 8:25:34 AM

@Daniel: yes it does. (well I have them both running)

Now all I have to do is
copy urlfilter.ini
copy wand.dat
disable new window (make CTRL-N a shortcut to "new page, 1")
what else .... (hmmm feeds...)

Yep. The installer should do this by default and it will run with a separate profile. If the installer says something about upgrading a previous installation, just go into the options and change the install directory.

Try mouse gestures on stacks up

BlueFalcon Tuesday, November 23, 2010 9:04:29 AM

Cool!! yes

wazzup105 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 9:14:35 AM

Hmmm...

I've found a site that didn't work in opera-10 (endomondo.com (the maps part)) which works in 11 !

Alas I also found that hyves.nl stopped working in opera-11 (let's hope it'll be resolved in the final release)

Aux Tuesday, November 23, 2010 9:27:18 AM

Wow! Tab stacking in true Opera way - nice, neat and highly usable! Great experience! Opera 10.50 was somehow an "alpha", but eleven is absolutely solid! Opera Software back on its track of pure awesomness! Thanks!

When downloading from http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ there is available only Opera_1100_en_b1_Setup.exe.

http://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1100b1/autoupdate/Opera_1100_int_Setup.exe lies as can be seen only on the FTP.

Kyuuen Tuesday, November 23, 2010 10:11:17 AM

Stacking would be useful for someone like me.

John BarnettJohn164 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 10:18:07 AM

Opera 11 Beta.

When using Amazon Manage your Kindle the manage page loads but the sections within that page do not load all I get is "Loading Please Wait"

If I change the Browser Identification to Mask as Internet Explorer the page load with it is sub sections, however, the Shortcuts on this page and the Delivery status boxes on the right side do not fit correctly.

Please try this and you will see what I am referring to.

yikes headbang up

Vikas Kumarvikaskr Tuesday, November 23, 2010 12:37:33 PM

Tab stacking is a neat feature really. It will be neater if we consider a stacked tab bar as another tab. So everything i can do with a tab i should be able to do with a tab like. For example tile all windows vertically should be able to tile all in the stack not all.

Panferno22529 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 12:38:07 PM

I said tab grouping in the contest! WOW! So, what shall I do now, I think I won!?yikes

wazzup105 Tuesday, November 23, 2010 12:49:11 PM

re installing....

I just extracted the content of the executable with "universal extractor" and ran the contained opera-executable. No need to install the application at all smile

Did anyone spotted new pinned tabs' behavior? Pinned tab is now represented by favicon only. I love that heart

Options for installing to current user only (as opposed to default of all users) and portable/external device are both locked out. Is this expected for the beta, or is something wrong? I ran the installer with admin privileges, too. Please advise. I'd love to install this on my expresscard SSD.

★(`'•.¸THAO¸.•'´)★minhthaofrances Tuesday, November 23, 2010 3:43:32 PM

good idea from Opera 11, but I will wait the official Opera 11 up

IKoke Tuesday, November 23, 2010 5:25:47 PM

Create a option to Open a new Tab in to the selected Stacking up

iateyourgranny Tuesday, November 23, 2010 6:26:45 PM

whoa, and check out the new plugins and cache page! you can actually search files and save them directly from the cache page! (by right-clicking, save target as)
and opera sure has out-done itself in terms of speed! twitter used to take ages to load, now a couple of seconds

John Hatzopoulosjohndgeek Tuesday, November 23, 2010 8:31:36 PM

This beta is so great! Tab stacking is cool to group multiple tabs of the same site together or hide tabs you don't want made visable bigsmile . Mouse gestures are a great option in Opera and the visual helper just adds to the usfulness. The browser is stable so far. Great job you guys and gals. You really turned it up to 11!
