Partying with Jon (Opera's CEO) in China

Earlier this week, Opera's CEO Jon S. von Tetzchner gave a speech at the China Internet Conference, and was interviewed by numerous Chinese news organizations.

Here are a few examples of some of that coverage (in Chinese):

You can also watch a new video interview with Jon here (in English and Chinese):

During his China trip, Jon also had a chance to interact with Chinese Opera users via an online chat, and then he met other users for a get-together afterwards. Thruth, our new marketing assistant in China, wrote the following report for Choose Opera:

Partying with Opera's CEO

Beijing, September 23rd

After answering several questions from Chinese users online, our CEO Jon came to a bar, to party with local Opera users.

When he arrived, about 20 Opera users were already there. There were college students, web developers, cool guys and girls (which means I don't know what their jobs are), even a lawyer and a business lady from Ubuntu. One thing they all have in common is that they truly love Opera. Jon and us employees arrived at the place at around 9:30PM, and there was plenty of free drinks for everyone. People enthusiastically spoke with Jon over beer.

The initial topic of conversation was Opera, but then we talked about everything.

It was not a Q&A session, but sharing. We shared our visions, feelings, and views. The Opera users who attended were really helpful, offering us a lot of feedback on how to make Opera big in China. Of course, Opera is offering users a lot of nice surprises as well, like the full history search feature in Opera 9.5 alpha.

Jon listened to and talked with everyone, and people enjoyed taking photos with him. Overall, it was lots of fun.

Another cool thing is the T-shirt that I'm wearing, with Jon's signature at the back. Everyone at the party got one. Check out the pictures below and feel free to envy.
