Is there a work around for average people who do not use UserJS in the works?

PaulPl4ub Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:01:34 PM

How about fix also to Opera Mobile 10 for symbian?
Can't watch youtube videos, works only on Opera Mini 5.

Alternatives exist!

Save it to any folder (I created a "JS" folder inside my Opera folder a long time ago), go to youtube press F12 > Edit site preferences > Scripting and point to your folder in the bottom text-field!

Do you have user javascript enabled in opera:config?

][ePyBuM Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:09:18 PM

Doesn't work for me. Before you ask, I'm familiar with userscript js.

UPD: it works for me now, the page was still in cache.

NicolasNickko Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:10:04 PM

On the about page, it between "Plug-in path" and "User CSS directory"

This worked for me.
RMB -> Edit Site Preferences -> Network -> Mask as FF

@SovietRussia @Aleksander Aas Got it! Thanks!

Awesome, thanks.

oceanic Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:22:23 PM

for those who have no idea what user js is follow this small guide:

#1 create a folder anywhere (somewhere in My Documents will be just fine)
#2 save the YoutubeProtectionRemover.js to that folder
#3 go to youtube, right click anywhere on the page and select "Edit Site Preferences..."
#4 navigate to the "Scripting" tab and select the folder you created under "User JavaScript Folder" and click okay
#5 refresh page
#6 send google a email that they are a bunch of ignorant developers

Murat SOsomurat Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:22:49 PM

That work for me only on Youtube's channel pages.
When I try to watch a single video, it does NOT work.

Waiting for a better solution...

Thanks. wink

hahahahaha!! that's true!!! i think that they are doing this to make people use their browser... :/

Jason Kasewieterjkase Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:26:44 PM

It didn't work for me originally either. However there is a step or two missing.

When you save "YoutubeProtectionRemover.js", it is a good idea to save it to a new folder called "UserJava" in you user folder i.e:
"C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\UserJava." **

Then open YouTube.com.
* Press the F12 key.
* Choose Edit Site Preferences.
* Choose Scripting Tab.
* Click Choose button, & navigate to where you saved the javascript;
In this example:
"C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\UserJava."
* Restart Opera.
* Now Profit :-)

Hope this helps.

** Note if you are running Windows XP; "Users" needs to be replaced with "Documents and Settings"

Bartosz Misiakwickoo Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:30:46 PM

Removing YouTube cookies in the site preferences was enough for me.
This UserJS didn't help actually.

Murat, maybe your videos not on www.youtube.com domain? Some changes should be done to the script in this case.

Murat SOsomurat Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:42:48 PM

Youtube smile It's fixed from our end.

If this isn't working make sure you delete cookies also!

DanielDD64 Thursday, April 15, 2010 12:56:32 PM

It´s an Youtube-Issue.
It´s not Opera's "fault"

Martin RauscherHades32 Thursday, April 15, 2010 1:01:16 PM

Well, YT works fine for me... Maybe because I have Flash 10.1 RC installed...

Matthew Wilcoxsonmwilco Thursday, April 15, 2010 1:27:23 PM

Will we get some feedback on what exactly the problem is, from a technical point of view?

Also, is there somewhere on YouTube we can reprot the problem?

There's an tread about it

and you really don't have to report it to youtube, they now allready!!!

Great patch!
Now if you can also find a similar workaround for the "Awaiting DNS confirmation" issue, that will make our days...

I just threw the JS script into my plugins folder and assigned that as my user javascript folder: Ctrl+F12 (or Tools -> Preferences -> Content -> Javascript Options.

By doing that, and then going to "opera:about" it will show that.

(I know I'm late in posting, but, it's still morning here in the States.)

Use 'Help > Check for Updates' to get the freshly updated browser.js that will work around the Youtube problem for now. With this update, you don't need to manually install a user javascript anymore.

Salah EddineLonelyBoydz Thursday, April 15, 2010 4:07:20 PM

Works perfectly, thank you !
Waiting for a permanent solution, though. This problem doesn't show up with Firefox, I assume that it's an Opera issue.

v-love Thursday, April 15, 2010 4:25:45 PM

its not an "opera issue", its a "stupid coders at google/youtube not giving a shit about good browsers issue", in fact.

Yeah you're right. I remember that we have once a similar problem with Rapidshare. Opera respect of the web standards seems to be the reason why a lot of people use other browsers. I mean, if you're not a fan of Opera and you have troubles with Youtube, you don't bother yourself by installing some User JavaScript, people don't even know what it is. So, i suggest that Opera "decrease" its standards in order to survive in this ignorant world !

wilkxorandor Thursday, April 15, 2010 5:53:49 PM

Thanks Snapp100 for the workaround! I was pretty confused when I saw "Go upgrade!" text instead of videos. And good to hear that it's not the Opera's fault. wink
