Christmas toys Five Christmas Songs That Children Love

, , ,

When its time to write those Santa letters and receive letters from Santa, the it is also time to start braking out those Christmas decorations and getting your home holiday ready. One of the best parts of this for children is dusting off those holiday CDs and tapes and letting Christmas music ring out through your home. Children love Christmas music and can listen to it all day. Here are five Christmas songs and their origins that you children will love and sing to all season long.

Frosty the Snowman is a children's classic that is also a favorite cartoon. This wildly popular song was written by Walter "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson. It was first recorded back in 1950 by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys. Since then, it has appeared every few years performed by a new artist. Perhaps the most popular version is sung by Jimmy Durante who also recorded it for the cartoon version, also named Frost the Snowman. Frost is a snowman that has a magic hat placed on his head that brings him to life. He plays with the children all day and then he has to leave but not before promising to return someday.

Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer is another holiday classic that was also made into a cartoon using stop motion animation. The story came first and it was written in 1939 by Robert L. May for Montgomery Ward, a department store. The story is owned by The Rudolph Company, L P. The song, which was written by the same person, is a huge success and has also been recorded by countless artists. Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer has been spun into several sequels including Rudolph's Shiny New Year.

While this next song is not a cartoon or a book, it is so catchy as to have become a favorite of children and adults all over the world. Jingle Bells is popular in part because it is so easy to recognize and sing. It was written by James Lord Pierpont and titled "One Horse Open Sleigh" in 1857. While it is really not a Christmas song, it is indelibly connected to Christmas and is considered a Christmas Carol by almost everyone. The song was first recorded on Thomas Edison's Cylinder, which is widely accepted as the first music player.

In 1934 composer, Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard B. Smith got together and wrote Winter Wonderland to celebrate winter. Like Jingle Bells, this song has been adopted into the group of songs known as the carols and is popularly considered a Christmas song. The first recording mentions Parson Brown who is marrying a young couple. This was considered in appropriate for children and replaced with circus clown lyrics. The song has reached as high as number four on the billboard charts. (Perry Como and Johnny Mercer)

Santa Clause Is Coming To Town is a Christmas song written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. This popular song made its first appearance on the Eddie Cantor Radio Show in 1934 gaining instant success. The next day, more than 100,000 people called the show to order it and by the end of the year, there were four times that sold. This song went to number one. It was first recorded by George Hall and the Hotel Taft Orchestra. Santa Clause is Coming To Town has been recorded by more than 100 artists and is still going strong!
