The Opera Turbo heavy metal theme: Surfing with Steel OR insert your own cliche here...
Thursday, 11. June 2009, 13:44:51
I've been giving Opera Turbo a lot of thought lately, and I think it is a cool enough feature to deserve its own theme. Now, I'm a pretty alternative guy, and a fan of all kinds of different styles of music, but really when you get down to the core of it, I'm a metal guy.
I love most types of metal, but my favourites are death metal (growling and very fast drums), grindcore (screaming and very fast drums) and trad metal (high pitched wailing and, erm, very fast drums).
I know this isn't everyone's cup of Nordic Aquavit, but hey, metal rocks. Get used to it. I happen to think that a theme tune for Opera would suit the genre of trad heavy metal very well. Or perhaps hardcore techno or punk rock. But definitely not country and western, soul, r 'n' b or Coldplay (they get a genre all of their very own).
When I think of the word "Turbo", I think of metal classics such as "Turbo Lover" (Judas Priest), "Kill with Power" (Manowar), "Formula One" (Primal Fear) and "Fast as a Shark" (Accept). I don't think of "Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon" by the Kinks.
So here we go - below are the prospective lyrics to the Opera Turbo theme song! The music will follow later. Much later. If you feel like writing the music yourself, feel free! When you read these, imagine them being shrieked over a classic Manowar, Hammerfall, Dream Evil or King Diamond tune. If you don't know any of these fabulous popular beat combos, go to Youtube, look them up, and then try again. You need to feel the steel, metal warriors!
Intro
[Song starts with the sound of motorbikes, or jet planes]
Verse 1
I feel the need, the need for a rush I gotta burn some energy off fast The vast momentum, It is so unreal I turn the key, the engine blasts my soul
The browser loads, I'm locked in now There's no escape, no going back The wind in my hair, diesel in my veins Even CNN is loading... ...faaaaaaaaaast!
Pre chorus
Leaving other browsers in the dust Galloping harder with fire and steel Turbo charging to destiny Such adrenaline I feel!
Chorus
Turbo Turbo Turbooooooooooowoaaaaaaah!
[Stupidly fast widdly guitar solo here]]
Verse 2
You can't compete, with such raw power Grind our foes down under the hammer Rend their flesh and take their souls Their web sites under our control
Our brothers are in for a feast, Now that we've unleashed the beast Turbo speed and rock and roll Crush bad code under deadly wheels!
Repeat Pre chorus
Repeat Chorus
And there you have it. I hope no-one finds this in any way amusing, as metal is a very serious business. Repent, unbelievers!
