I noticed something funny today which makes me need to ask. Are the pirate bay search results filtered by my browser history. I was searching the internet for information on how to remove the radio form my car. The search I used was something like toyota echo 2000 car radio removal. I was also searching the internet for clock repair. I want to learn how to fix my broken clock. Then I went to the pirate bay and searched for clock repair. It returned a few results, one of which was 2000 to 2002 Toyota Echo OEM Service Manual w/Table Of Contents in ebooks. Does that seem odd to anyone? Does anyone know if the pirate bay filter based on browser history/cookies?
thanks

youtube, Daily show, comedy central
Considering all the kafuffle over YouTube having to remove all The Daily Show clips and considering Comedy Centrals response was - the clips are here, come watch them here - you would think they would have the back-end to support show watchers.
I went to Comedy Central today and the site lacked up my browser. Maybe it was server overload (I can't see how that would lock up my browser), maybe it was the coding of the site (the way the site presents the videos is less than great), or maybe it was somethings else. Regardless, it should work and it doesn't and that's their fault. It's - at this moment - seems to me that Comedy Central bit off more than they can chew.

Firefox, Odd
I don't have this experience in Opera but sometimes in Firefox I get black specks after a paragraph return. They act funny too. Sometimes, if I just press enter they go away and other times I have actually seem them disappear on their own - while I'm looking at them they just vanish. This happens a lot when I copy and past text.
Heres a screen grab of them
Odd hey? Anyone else experiencing this?

KVHS, friend, death, New Brunswick
I was contacted last night by my old friend Jan Sorencen. He called to tell me that a high school friend - Mary Jane McLaughlin - has passed away.
These situations are always hard to understand and even greater when they happen to someone like MJ. My connection with MJ is a long high school related thing. Unfortunately, like most friendships, after high school, communication slacked and eventually was nothing. It may be odd to mention that at this time but I lets me talk about one of the effect it has on memory and regret.
It has been a long long time since I've seen MJ. Since being contacted by Jan about her death I have had a great experience remembering all that I can about her. The memories are many and continuous. I feel it interesting that through remembering MJ I feel emotions and recall events that allow me to rebuild experiences that I had with MJ and other friends. I imagine, like most people - who have learned about MJ's death - have done the same thing I have done - something I haven't done in a long time - open my year book. The memories where overwhelming, joyful and sad. I am thankful for that moment to remember everyone and MJ. The experience was enjoyable just like Mary Jane was in life.
MJ's death has also brought me much regret. I regret that my contact with Jan was under these circumstances. I regret that I have fallen out of touch with so many friends. I regret that my contact with MJ wasn't sustained. Regret has made me realize just how much of who I am was built from my experiences and the people involved in building those experiences. Mary Jane was part of that so I regret not being able to say good-bye.
If you would like to state your condolences you can at

Del.icio.us, Opinions, social bookmarking, technology
...
I started using Del.icio.us casually a while back but recently decided to upload my bookmarks. I have been thinking about moving this type of stuff online for a while but never really wanted to sort through all my bookmarks and tag them. I decided to slowly update my imported bookmarks a few every other day. So far so good. Through this experience i have started to notice a few things I'd like changed. I suppose that statement sets up this post as a "to be continued" sort-of-thing. Anyway.
Tag bundling is great. I like the concept of having this automatically placed into a defined folder/label/whatever. What I want in addition to this is tag grouping. I do lots of tags like "visual communication design" and want that as one tag. Perhaps putting tag phrases into quotes would automatically create a bundle. Maybe that...
I also noticed when I do in page (i don't know how else to describe it) bookmark editing. I get Title, URL, Notes, Tags but using the del.icio.us firefox extension, when I "tag this page" I get URL, description, notes, tags. Consistency is what I want here. Perhaps both are needed. I have been bookmarking for my thesis and as a result would like to put a short description in with a tile. For example, the title to the article and my brief description about the article.
Perhaps all these issues are just because I'm fairly new to de.icio.us or maybe not.

John Stweart, comedy, presidential press conference
I watched the presidential press conference the other day. It was my first time watching one. I watch John Stewart poke fun of this stuff on the Daily Show so when I watched the press conference I was really only researching the validity of the shows insinuation that the President is dumb. I wanted to know if it was like most TV - edited. I was amazed. He was rude, he can't make a coherent sentence, his points are all disconnected, and most obviously he is dumb. Honestly it was like watching a high school presentation at the front of the class go horribly wrong - but worse. You know when your friend looses their place, stutters, can't stand still, etc. I think it's funny he's not better groomed. There are public speaking course. He has writers doesn't he?
After watching it I have great certainty that I am smarter than the president of the United States.
You can watch John Stewart poke fun here.

elearning, computer-based, computer-enhanced, instructional aid
...
I'm building a glossary for my thesis and as part of the process am
trying to crunch definitions to build a better understanding of terms.
I'm struggling with mapping differences between computer-based and
computer-enhanced instructional aids. So wanted to throw these two
terms at the group and ask for your help in defining them. Is there
differences? Do they mean different things? Does computer-enhanced
inherently mean computer-based? Does computer-enhanced imply design
and learning process beyond computer-based?
Hope you can help.
Thanks

Matthew Nephew Halifax
I was away in Halifax for the last month. Milena and I vacation there yearly to see family and old friends. While I was there I got to see my nephew Matthew. It's been a long long time since I've last seen him and honestly, it was a blast. He's a great kid, lots of fun, and lots of energy. I didn't expect him to be a wrestling fan though. Needless to say there was lots of smashing, crashing and surprise body slams. He deserved it I swear. He loves Rey Mysterio so he's taken the name Matt Mysterio. Lots of hours were spent pouring over pages of Rey Mysterio images and video on the web. I decided I would make him a knock off image. You can see it below. It links to my flickr account. So there you go Matt. Your on google (the web)...

digital, technology, funny
I just read two interesting Digg titles. One '
Woman Has Rare Case of the "Black Death"' and '
Dual Monitors Increase Productivity by up to 30%'(the links redirect to the article not to digg). What interests me about the first post in timing. I thought it funny that a post about the bubonic plague would surface days after an episode on HOUSE - the TV show - of that same topic. Funny how the media works. The second post reminded me of a Digg '
How to convince your boss to buy you a big monitor!' posted about a month ago and now the NY Times has an article of the same vein just now two monitors. I'm suspicious that the MY Times is in cahoots with LCD makers. To be honest, it's all the reasoning I need to save my pennies.
End observations...

Opera, logo, design
I was reading the member of the week post on
lya, a resident My Opera artist / designer and I got curious. Ilya had logo concepts for Opera and many approving comments. It 'reminded' me (as in, I got excited and wanted to renew a post I started a long time ago about a new logo design for Opera) of a thread started a while back about that same topic.
Here is the link. And my concepts are
here. I think it might be time to open that illustrator file and begin concepting again. It's been over a year and design styles have
changed. But, I still think there is life in my original concepts...
Thanks Ilya, by the way, for the link to the old post. Hopefully these types of topics might make things move. Also, Ilya links to
Ivan Minic's post about logo design - which I have never read before. It is worth the read.
