Google calendar

, ,

Today, I started using Google calendar(GC). I've been waiting some time for this to go live. Well, it's still beta, does that count as live? Regardless, I was quick to dump my outlook calendar(OC) to GC to be one step further from depending on outlook(it has been a not-so-good experience - not bad, just not great). The first few times importing Google wouldn't let me. I don't know why, but the import hung then I received a weird server side error. Don't ask what it was, I didn't write it down - sorry. I went in and edited my cvs file, tried again and it worked. Let me warn anyone doing this it was a mess. I don't know how other people organize there calendars but my OC was one big file. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays... you name it. And when I imported it into GC It was one big mess. I would suggest making all your calendars in GC before importing. Then, if your OC exported cvs file is like mine - one large contain all - then strip out the information and make different cvs files for each calendar in GC. That was you can do multiple imports and keep everything nice and clean. Also, if you're currently in my situation - moving, deleting, and creating calendar events (after importing the one big cvs file, not doing what I suggested above because you are almost done and you don't want to start over (run on much)) - only towards the beginning you can always delete your calendar, do what I suggested above and re-import. Make sense?

Beyond all that, I have noticed a couple things I would like to see implemented. For example, I would like the option to search for all event containing "a word" and delete them all at once. I've also noticed that there is no scroll bar for searches that give a lot of results (beyond the bottom of the page). And I would love to see tasks implemented.

So far, I'm very happy with GC. I like that I can share a calendar with research partners. I love the show/hide check box for calendars and the colour coding. I really like the integration with gMail. I can't wait to see more. Come on features come on...

Edit...
About repeated events, I really want the option to set a repeated day on an abstract date like the first Monday in August sort of thing. That would be great.
