A great night with Vicky, Richard, and the Calgary Flames

, , ,

On Saturday we received a call from some friends. They had extra tickets to the Flames vs the Canucks at the Dome. They asked us if we wanted to come and we said yes. What a great time!

We've only know Vicky and Richard a little while but I feel safe is saying they are great people. Milena became involved in newcomers here in Calgary. That I where she met Vicky. Since newcomers we have met a load of people. All really nice, all really fun.

It was my first time at a Flames hockey game. the experience was very Hollywood. I can't say for certain but I suspect that the Dome has worked with an experience designer. Yes, I meant experience and not experienced. Everything as a whole came together to create a great event. The lights, the sound, the displays, the service and what impressed me the most was the timing. Perhaps this is nothing new to regular hockey goers but the Dome has servers that stood in each isle and took drink and food orders. They would only work when the puck was not in motion. They used PDAs to take orders which - I can only imagine - sent the order to runners who brought the food in brown paper bags. Like the servers they only served the food when the puck was not in motion. The LDC that went 360 around the Dome was remarkably bright. It streamed constant and seamless graphics of flames and ads. There was a fire dispensing unit that would spit a hug fireball into the air. And the sound system was incredibly clear. The entire event must have been constructed. It was truly Hollywood esque in its presentation and execution. If they are not working with an experience designer I can only imagine what it would be like it they did.

If you want to see photos of the event go to "Monkeys with Tails' in the 'People I know' links down the right and go to Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks. Or click here.
