My New Opera Logo concepts

, ,

I was reading the member of the week post on lya, a resident My Opera artist / designer and I got curious. Ilya had logo concepts for Opera and many approving comments. It 'reminded' me (as in, I got excited and wanted to renew a post I started a long time ago about a new logo design for Opera) of a thread started a while back about that same topic. Here is the link. And my concepts are here. I think it might be time to open that illustrator file and begin concepting again. It's been over a year and design styles have changed. But, I still think there is life in my original concepts...

Thanks Ilya, by the way, for the link to the old post. Hopefully these types of topics might make things move. Also, Ilya links to Ivan Minic's post about logo design - which I have never read before. It is worth the read.

A great little torrent app

, ,

I recently discovered utorrent. A great little app which has now become my primary tool for downloading torrents. Something like this should be integrated into Opera. It is light, quick and gives me what I need to do the job. I would like to see an IPFilter integrated into it. But...

The last 3 or so versions have had new icons. So I thought I would take a stab at one. I designed this. I sent it off. Maybe if I am luck Ludde will use it.

I did have a funny thing happen with Opera and torrents. When I clicked on a link to download a torrent would get the 'Download file" dialog box. It was set to Azureus but I changed it to open utorrent. Easy enough. I then checked "Pass web address directly to application". After that I got some funny results. When clicking a torrent link it would open in utorrent and Azureus. so i unchecked "Pass web address directly to application" and now everything works fine.

This sounds like a bug in Opera. I also noticed that when i click the radio button net to "Open with default application" this remains grayed out and stuck on Azureus. It seems that the two applications opening the same torrent is linked it this problem. Opera must still see Azureus as the default application but is also linking to utorrent. I have utorrent set in "open with other application" because "Open with default application" wont let me make changes.

[edit]
turns out some people at teh utorrent site have added a thread to the forum that is for logo/icon design for utorrent.
